HYDRANGEA HILL & RIDE THE RANGE

 Hi, Stampers!

Let’s take a look at a floral themed suite, and a Western / ranch themed bundle featured in the new Stampin’ Up!®️ January - June 2021 Mini Catalog (J-J Mini).  The suite is called Hydrangea Hill (pages 18-20 of J-J Mini), and includes the Hydrangea Haven Bundle (Hydrangea Haven stamp set and the Hydrangea dies), Hydrangea Hill DSP, Hydrangea Hill Mercury Glass Acetate, Gorgeous Grape Sheer Ribbon, and Pastel Pearls.

The Ride the Range bundle (page 68 of J-J Mini) includes the Ride the Range stamp set and the Open Range dies. Each stamp set and set of dies can be purchased separately, or bundled together for a savings of 10%. When purchasing a suite, the bundle is included at the 10% discount.

HYDRANGEA HILL SUITE

(HYDRANGEA HAVEN BUNDLE)

The Hydrangea Hill stamp set is a Two-Step stamp set, and features gorgeous hydrangea floral images and several sentiments. The dies cut out the floral images. There is also a label die and a small tag die.

I ordered the Hydrangea Hill Suite, and was so excited the day the UPS man deliver my order. I took the beautiful components of the suite from the shipping box and placed them on my stamping table. That is when it happened! My mind went blank! I had no idea what to do with all the pretty stamps, papers, and embellishments! I felt totally overwhelmed! So.... I opened up the catalog and took a look at sample cards made with products from the suite. It took about two seconds for a card to pop out at me! I reproduced the card with a couple of my own twists. This card is shown below. What did I do differently? I did not add any color to the sentiment label, and the dimensions of my layers most likely are different as I just went with my best guess. I mounted the card front on a Mossy Meadow card base cutting the DSP layer at 4” x 5 1/4” allowing the card base to form a border around the card front. I added Wink of Stella to the flowers in the bouquet.

After I made this card ideas for other cards started popping into my head! My tip for getting the creative juices flowing when you feel overwhelmed or lack ideas for card making - look at the samples in the catalog! CASE (Copy And Share Everything) a card. CASEing does not mean simply reproducing a card. You can use the card samples as inspiration - use the card’s layout, use the card’s color scheme, use the card’s elements in a different way, etc. The possibilities are endless, and the process does help inspire your creativity! Please take note; if you copy a card and put it on social media, please give credit where credit is due. If your card was inspired by someone else’s creation, and you put the card on social media, please state who inspired your card. If you can provide a link to the original card it would be polite to do so.

If you want to reproduce the card above here are a couple of tips:

1.  The Rococo Rose Mercury Glass Designer Acetate is not one continuous sheet. It is two 1/2” x 4” strips attached to the back side of the focal piece with deminsionals. This strategy helps you get more mileage from the acetate.

2. To “fussy cut” (cut out with scissors) the bouquet of flowers; turn the paper into the scissors as opposed to moving the scissors around the image.

3. The die cut leaf outlines with stems are attached to the back side of the floral bouquet and held in place with a dimensional. This makes the leaves and stems appear to be free floating, and adds some interest by giving the leaves and stems a 3-D look

For the card above I stamped the hydrangea images, colored it with Stampin’ Blends, and cut it out with dies. The floral image is mounted on a piece of the Mercury Glass acetate (Highland Heather) using dimensionals. This focal image is mounted on a Highland Heather card base that has been stamped with another floral image from the Hydrangea Haven stamp set with Highland Heather ink.

Tips for reproducing this card:

1. If you look closely at the acetate mat, you will notice I used one of the Stitched Rectangles dies to cut it. I do not recommend doing this. The acetate is quite thick. I had a very difficult time getting the die to cut through it. I tried another set of dies with the Mercury glass acetate, and got similar results. My recommendation is my own, and based on my experience. It is possible your experience might be different.

2. To help the Mercury Glass acetate stand out from the card base, I attached it to a piece of white cardstock of the same size.

3. The little tag appears to be tied around rage floral image with the baker’s twine. It is not. The tag is adhere to the flower leaf with Stampin’ Seal +.  The baker’s twine (from the Snail Mail Suite pages 54-55 J-J  Mini) is a doubled and tied onto a bow. It is strategically placed to give the illusion of the tag being tied around the flower. It is adhered to the rage with a glue dot.

This card was quick and easy to make. It features the Hydrangea Hill DSP cut at 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”, and adhered to a Highland Heather card base. The sentiment is from the Happy Thoughts stamp set (page 28 in the J-J Mini Catalog) and stamped with Gorgeous Grape ink. . The card is embellished with the beautiful Gorgeous Grape Sheer Ribbon  and some of the Pastel Pearls.

My one tip for this card - it is okay to let the DSP shine, and do some of the work for you! The card might be quick and easy, but it is also quite pretty!

Now let’s take a look at the Ride the Range Bundle! As you can guess from the title, this bundle is perfect for making and sending cards to all ranchers, wranglers, cowpokes in your life! BUT.... it is versatile enough to make and send cards to those who do not fancy themselves a cowboy or cowgirl! I am excited about this bundle, because it will help me creative great cards for several people in my life, but once again I sat at my desk totally overwhelmed!

For card making inspiration I once again took a look at card samples in the J-J Mini. I created two cards very similar to a card on page 68.

This card is going to a young fellow in Texas, whom I have known (literally)from the moment he was born 11 years ago. The card below is a bit of a different take on the card, and will soon be in its way to one of my grand- nieces to help her celebrate her 10th birthday!

The two previous cards focus on creating cards using images in the stamp set. The next card uses one of the greetings from the stamp set as a focal point.

The DSP for this card is from the Well Suited collection. (Page 67 J-J Mini) Once again the DSP does most of the work! The ribbon is from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack (Page 161 Annual Catalog). Sometimes when the images in a stamp sets are not speaking to you, focusing on the sentiments and greeting in a stamp set can help get you inspired to create a great card!
