SHARK FRENZY & DARLING DONKEYS POP UP CARDS

 Hi, Stampers!

Today I have a couple of easy pop up cards to share with you! The first one is made with a stamp set called SHARK FRENZY! The SHARK DIES coordinate with the stamp set. As always the stamp set and the dies can be purchased separately or as a bundle for a 10% savings.

SHARY FRENZY and SHARK DIES

This is the outside of the card.

And... this is the inside of the card.

The next version of this pop up card is made with the DARLING DONKEYS stamp set (SAB Brochure).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR  POP UP MECHANISM

* For the card base cut cardstock at 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”  - score and fold at 4 1/4”.
* For the pop up insert cut Designer Series Psper (DSP) at 8” x 5 1/4” - score and fold at 4”.

1. Place the insert in your trimmer at 1 1/2” along the 5 1/4” side (folded side). Using the cutting blade cut  down from the fold to the 1 1/2” mark. Now flip the piece over, and do the same thing on the other side.

2. Next, place the folded insert into the trimmer with the 4” side along the top of the trimmer at the 1 1/2” mark.  Make sure the folded side of the DSP is on the left side. Using the scoring blade make a score line to the 1 1/2” mark. Remove the insert from the trimmer, flip it, and repeat the process on the other side.

3. Now fold the insert in half so the wrong side(the side you do not want to show) facing the outside. Lift the top flap, from behind push out the cut parts on the left and right side. Push down the score lines on the bottom half of the paper. Start to fold the paper in half as you fold up the score lines on the top portion of the paper. Your paper should resemble the photo below. (The paper clip is being used to keep the piece flap while photographing it.)

Set up the insert and it should have two “boxes” to which die cuts can be attached. Theses two boxes are the pop up mechanisms.

This is the mechanism I used to make the SHARK FRENZY card.

NOTE:  for the SHARK FRENZY card I made the insert using cardstock covered with DSP. The process
is exactly the same as when using DSP, but you might ant to go over the cut lines twice to be certain the cuts are made and the scoring lines show up on both side of the folded insert.

To attach the insert to the card base, close the insert so the wrong side of the DSP is on the outside. Open the card base and line up the folded insert right along the card fold. Make sure the insert is centered between the two sides of the card base. Put adhesive on the insert . While holding the insert in place, fold the card base down over the insert. Flip the card and repeat the process on the opposite side of the card.

As you noticed the shark card insert had two pop up boxes, one on the left side of the insert, and one on the right side of the insert. The donkey card has just one pop up box, and it is located in the center of the insert.

This insert is simply a variation of the previous one; the only difference is the scoring. This is how to create the insert with the pop up mechanism in the center of the piece.

* The cardstock for the cardbase is cut at 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” - scored and folded at 4 1/4”.
* For the pop up insert cut DSP at 8” x 5 1/4” - score and fold at 4”.

1. Place the insert in the trimmer at 1 1/2” along the 5 1/4” side (folded side). Using the cutting blade, cut down from the fold to the 1 1/2” mark. Flip the piece over and repeat the process on the other side.

2. Place the DSP in the trimmer with the 4” side along the top of the trimmer and the folded edge of the insert to the left. Using your scoring blade, make a score line from the 1 1/2” mark on the trimmer to the 3 3/4” mark.

3. Fold the insert in half so the wrong side is facing out. Lift the top flap from behind and push outward. Push down the score line. Now lift up the insert top, and start folding the paper on half again as you push out the bottom score line for the pop up mechanism. When you finish, it should look like the photo below, with just one box in the center as a pop up mechanism.

Attach this mechanism to the card base in the same manner as for the insert with two pop up box mechanisms.

That is all for today. Until next time...
