Hi Stampers!
Today’s project is a classic. I have created these many times over the years for various occasions. What am I talking about? The Matchbook Treat Holder! It is quick, easy, uses scraps, and brings a smile to the faces of those who receive it. I will share a couple of alternatives that can be used to make this treat holder a bit more versatile. It is the perfect little item to slip into your child’s lunchbox, place on you coworkers’ desks, pop inside a gift basket, use as a table favor, hand out for trick-or-treat, slip into stockings, and more. Let’s look at the samples:

A CLASSIC TREAT HOLDER THAT’S PERFECT FOR BRIGHTENING SOMEONE’S DAY!
WHAT YOU NEED
* Cardstock - cut at 7 3/4” x 3”
* Patterned Paper - cut at 3 1/2” x 2 3/4” (when using directional papers keep in mind the 3 1/2” is the height of the paper and the 2 3/4” is the width)
* Other - stamps, ink, dies, etc for focal image, sentiment; ribbon,
* Adhesive, dimensionals, stapler or glue dots as an alternative to the staple
* Candy - small individual bags of m&m’s or Skittles, small flat candy bars like Hershey bars or Kit Kats, or Ghirardelli squares. Basically a candy that is somewhat flat, no wider than 2 3/4”, and no taller than 3”.
NOTE: I found some of the candies I used were just a tad too wide (thick) and made it a bit more difficult to close the holder. Here is an alternative measurement and scoring that helps solves this problem:
*Cut cardstock at 8” x 3”. Score along the 8” side at 4 1/4” and 4 3/4”. Everything else remains the same.
WHAT TO DO
* Score cardstock along 7 3/3” side at 3/4”, 4 1/4”, and 4 1/2”. (Or use the alternative cardstock and scoring measurements noted above.) Fold score lines (all are mountain folds), and enforce with a bone folder.
* Cut patterned paper - place 3 1/2” side along the top of the paper trimmer, cut at 3”. This gives you two pieces to decorate the front flap and bottom flap of the holder.
* The two ends of the treat holder are the front. Place the border of the candy of choice along the 3/4” score line. Fold the narrow flap up over the border of the candy wrapper. Staple together in the center a bit more toward the bottom of the flap. (Alternative - Use three - five glue dots - on the back side of the small flap place a glue dots on each end and one in the center right against the score line. Place 2-3 glue dots on the back of the border of the candy wrapper. Fold the flap up, and press over the glue dots to be sure the flap is adhered.
* Using adhesive of choice, adhere the narrow strip of patterned paper along the small flap. Glue the larger piece of patterned paper in place on the larger flap.
* Add sentiment, focal image, etc.
* Slip the larger flap under the smaller one to close the holder, just like a matchbook.
