WHALE DONE
ONE WHALE OF A CARD
Today I made cards using the Whale Done stamp set and coordinating Whale Builder punch. Each item may be purchased separately, or purchased as a bundle with 10% savings. The Whale Done Bundle is part of the Whale of a Time Suite (pages 94-96 in the annual catalog), which also includes DSP, Ribbon, Sequins, and an embossing folders.
Here is the Whale Done Bundle:
And here is the card I made. For lack of a better name I call it the Double Fold Window Card!
Front of the card.
First panel opened.
Card fully opened.
To make this card you will need the following:
The Whale Done Bundle
A Pretty Peacock card base 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored at 4 1/4”
Another piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock cut at 5 1/2” x 4 3/4” scored at 4 1/4” along the 4 3/4” side
A third piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock that is 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” - for die cut circle borders around windows
4 pieces of Whale of a Time DSP (use designs that are similar) cut at 5 1/4” x 4”
1 piece of Whale of a Time DSP with large whales to punch out - Pretty Peacock
Scrap pieces of Pool Party cardstock
Dimensionals and Tear & Tape and Stampin’ Seal, or adhesive of your choice To adhere DSP to card
Frosted & Clear Epoxy Droplets
Happy Birthday sentiment from. Timeless Tulips stamp set
Stitched Shapes Dies - circles - the middle two
Flagged Banner die from Tasteful Labels Dies
Pretty Peacock Classic Stampin’ Pad
To assemble the card:
Punch the Pretty Peacock colored whale from the DSP.
Punch the whale shape from the Pool Party scrap cardstock
Adhere the two whale shapes together - this makes the whale more sturdy
Using the two circle dies and the unscored 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 sheet of cardstock cut 4 frames by nesting the two dies together and running them through a die cut machine.
Run the banner die and a scrap of Pool Party cardstock through the die cut machine.
For the front panel of the card, fold along the score line on the 5 1/2” x 4 3/4 “ cardstock. Reinforce the fold using a bone folder. Fold to back of card. Center DSP and adhere to card panel. Place the smaller of the two circle dies in the center of the panel and run it through the die cut machine. It will require running it through two or three times. Pop out the circle. Now lay the panel DPS side down. Place Tear & Tape alone the length of the 1/2 inch flap created by the scoring. Peal off the backing. This panel is now ready to be joined to the rest of the card
The Pretty Peacock cardstock base will be oriented to open from the right side as opposed to the usual opening from the left side. With the card facing up and positioned to open opposite of normal, line the card up withe the front panel over the flap, and press down to adhere.
Next adhere another piece of DSP center it and adhere it to the next panel. See photo above -Outside of Card - panel 3. Close the card, and with a pencil lightly trace onto the DSP where to die cut with the smallest of the two circle dies. Run only the one end of the card through the die cut machine. Next on the other side of the panel you just die cut, center and adhere another piece of DSP. Keep the adhesive away from the area where you will be die cutting. Now on the other side of that panel take the circle die, and place it in the circle You just die cut. Run it through the die cut machine.
Center and adhere the final piece of DSP to the inside of the center panel -see photo above, Inside of Card panel 2.
Stamp the greeting, “Hoping all you birthday fishes come true,” from the Whale Done stamp set in the upper right corner of the inside panel #2.
Put dimensionals on the back of the whale, and adhere it so that it shows through both wondows when the card is closed.
Put adhesive on the back of the 4 frames and place them around each window (both sides).
Stamp the “happy birthday” from Timeless Tulips on the banner. Put dimensionals on the back of the banner and adhere the banner to the lower left portion of the front of panel 1.
Add three of the epoxy drops (I used the clear ones) to the front of the card (panel 1).
Your card is complete.
Making this card is not as complicated as it seems, and it is worth the extra work! When you finish the card you can be certain the recipient will say it is a job “Whale Done!”
Until next time...
Stamp Happy!
Kim
