PRIZED PEONY

WHAT’S IT CALLED?
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by
any other name would smell as sweet.”
Juliet , Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare

Stampin’ Up!®️ offers a gorgeous floral suite called Peony Garden. (Pages 82-84 of the annual catalog.) The suite includes the Prized Peony stamp set bundled with the matching dies, beautiful DSP, vellum doilies, Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon (very elegant), faceted gems, and the Dainty Diamonds 3-D embossing folder. Every element of the suite is so pretty!  The minute I saw this suite I knew it was a must have for me for three reasons. First the peony was my dad’s favorite flower. We had a row of  peony bushes growing in our yard along side the garage when I was growing up. Secondly, the peony is the state flower of Indiana - the state where I was born and raised, and proudly call home. Lastly, the stamp set is simply beautiful!

As much as I love the stamp set - and the entire suite of products, there is just one problem; the pronunciation of the word peony! According to Webster’s Dictionary the word is pronounced
PEE - UH - KNEE.  Some pronounce it PEE - OH - KNEE. Here in my neck of the woods we call the flower a PIE - KNEE! Why, I have no clue! It’s just what we do - could have something to do with our Southeastern Indiana Hoosier drawl. Who knows? However one chooses to pronounce the name, the flowers are beautiful in real life, and in the stamped version!

Here is a look at the stamp set and the dies.

As you can see there are dies for cutting out stamped images, and dies to cut out and assemble a 3D peony for your cards and other projects.

Here are two cards I made using the Prized Peony stamp set, Peony Dies, and various other elements from the Suite.

For this card I use the large floral image for my focal point. I stamped the image on Whisper White cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and added a bit of color to the flower with Petal Pink and Old Olive Stampin’ Blend markers. The card base is Gray Granite topped with a piece of the Peony Garden DSP. The floral image is on dimensionals on another piece of the DSP and mounted on a mat of Gray Granite cardstock with a piece of the Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon tied around it. To finish the card I stamped the happy birthday greeting (from Four Season Floral set - found in the Make Beautiful Things beginner brochure) using Gray Granite ink.

The card base for this card is Smoky Slate. I embossed it using the Dainty Fiamonds 3-D embossing folder. I used one of the pretty vellum doilies, and used the dies to make the peony and the leaves. The peony is Melon Mambo sponged with Magenta Madness. The leaves are Old Olive with Garden Green.I added a few pearls, and the happy birthday sentiment. The sentiment is from the Four Seasons Floral stamp set, stamped with Melon Mambo ink on Smoky Slate cardstock, and cut it out with one of the Stitched Shapes dies.

No matter how you pronounce the name, the products that make up the Peony Garden Suite will inspire you to create beautiful cards for many occasions. I hope my cards have provided you with your own greatinkspirations.

Until next time...
Stamp Happy
