USE YOUR SCRAPS & A SIMPLE QUILT PATTERN TO CREATE PRETTY CHRISTMAS CARDS; A STAMP HAPPY HOLIDAYS POST

Hi Stampers!

Today’s card layout is one of my favorite ways to use up my small scraps of Designer Series Paper (DSP). The layout is based on a quilt pattern called Disappearing Nine Patch or Disappearing Nine Square pattern. I love quilts and quilt patterns, but I am not much of a quilter. This card layout allows me to create a paper quilt themed card to send Holiday wishes to friends and family. Let’s take a peek at the cards:

USE YOUR SCRAPS & A QUILT DESIGN TO CREATE
COZY CHRISTMAS CARDS

SUPPLIES FOR THE DISAPPEARING NINE PATCH CARD
* CARD BASE
 - Color of choice, I recommend white or a light color if you plan to stamp a greeting right on the card base.
 - A-2 size - 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4 or 11” x 4 1/4” scored and folded at 5 1/2”
* MATS
 - Colors - two colors of cardstock that coordinate with your DSP scraps
 - Size - cut one mat at 3 1/4” square and another one at 3 1/2”
* DSP
 - Cut nine 1” x 1” squares from scraps of DSP, select at least 3, and up to 9 different patterns
 - Two pieces of DSP cut 3” square - these pieces of DSP will not be visible, so no need to be concerned about coordinating with the 9 squares
* ADHESIVES
 - Adhesive sheets - Stampin’ Seal or liquid glue can be used in place of the adhesive sheets. Be sure to get adhesive on the corners of each square. Use the liquid glue sparingly, and allow the glued squares to dry before continuing with the card layout.
 - Adhesive or dimensionals to adhere the focal panel to the card

* OTHER SUPPLIES
 - Sentiment stamp
 - Ink - color(s) that coordinate with DSP
 - Embossing Folder (optional)
 - Ribbon, gems, die cuts, or other embellishments (optional)

CREATING THE FOCAL PANEL
* Place adhesive sheet on one of the 3” squares of DSP.
* Arrange the nine 1” squares of DSP on the adhesive covered 3” square of DSP in three rows of three blocks.
* Emboss this piece with the embossing folder of choice (optional)
* Place the piece in your paper trimmer at 1 1/2” and cut. You now have two pieces that measure 3” x 1 1/2”
* Place each of the two piece in the paper trimmer 1 1/2” (the 3” side will be along the top of the trimmer) and cut. You now have four pieces that measure 1 1/2” square.
* Adhere these four squares to the other 3” square of DSP. You can use whatever adhesive you prefer.
* Adhere this piece to the 3 1/4” cardstock mat.
* Now adhere the piece to the  3 1/2” mat.
* If you are using ribbon as an embellishment and it needs to go behind the focal panel, attach it now.
* Adhere the focal panel to the cardbase
* Stamp the greeting
* Add other embellishments

TIPS
* For easy coordination of DSP and cardstock colors use paper scraps from the same DSP collection. Stampin’ Up!®️ Designer Series Papers packages have a list of color used in the collection printed on the packaging. The colors are also listed in the product description in the online store.

* I recommend using adhesive sheets to adhere the 1” squares to the 3” piece of DSP. This type of adhesive ensure each square is securely attached and will stand up being cut apart. If you do not have the adhesive sheets the Stampin’ Seal, Stampin’ Seal+, Tear & Tape, liquid glue will all work, just be sure all the corners and sides of the square are adhered securely to the 3” square of DSP.

* As I mentioned earlier, use a light color card base if you plan to stamp the greeting directly onto the cardbase. The light color card base also allows a sentiment to be stamped inside the card without an added inside panel.

* Using an embossing folder can add a bit of a “quilted” look to the focal panel, as well as adding texture. Embossing the piece also helps to really press those 1” squares into the adhesive on the 3” square. Any embossing folder will do, but smaller designs work well on the small panel.

* Squares containing small images you do not want cut up, or text you want to remain upright - place those images in the corners of the 3” square.

JOY OF CHRISTMAS CARD

* Cardstock - Crumb Cake (cardbase) Real Red, Pecan Pie
* DSP - Joy of Christmas
* Embossing Folder - Snowflake Sky
* Ribbon - Real Red & Garden Green Combo - Real Red, about 12 inches total
* Embellishment - Festive Pearls - gold, 3 or Rustic Metallic Dots
* Ink - Real Red

MERRY BOLD & BRIGHT CARD

* Cardstock - Basic White- thick (card base), Granny Apple Green, Poppy Parade
* DSP - Merry Bold & Bright
* Embossing Folder - Basic 3-D - Flowers
* Ribbon - Metallic Woven - Parakeet Party, about 30” total
* Ink - Poppy Parade
* Dimensionals - the matted focal piece is attached to the card with dimensionals

BEARY CHRISTMAS CARD

* Cardstock - Misty Moonlight (card base), Basic White, Night of Navy
* DSP - Beary Christmas
* Ink - Misty Moonlight

The great thing about this card layout is by simply changing the DSP colors or designs cards can be created for Christmas, Hanukkah, birthdays, or any occasion! I hope you give this card layout t a try, it is easy, looks great, and uses up those small scraps of DSP!

Thanks for stopping by! Until next time . . .
Stamp Happy!
