FAULT LINE TEARS

I have seen Fault Line cards around for a little while now. I watched  3-4  tutorials for this card style, and I had to stop. My head was spinning. I decided I would just do it my own way, and of course this could be someone else’s way as well, but it is not like any of the tutorials I watched.

Here is what I did:
* I chose a A-2 card base
* Next I chose a top layer (patterned paper, cardstock, specialty paper, etc) 4 1/4” x 3 3/4”
* Then I chose a second layer (patterned paper, cardstock, specialty paper, etc.) 4 1/4” x 3”
NOTE - Pay attention to directional patterns.
* I placed what will be the top layer face down on my table
* I placed the second layer face down on top of that and centered it
* Next I picked up the two papers and with right sides facing me I began tearing from the short sides all the way across. I tore just a tiny bit off what will be the papers that go along the bottom of the card. This extra tearing gives the papers that nice torn edge.
* I put glue on the back side of the two pieces of the top layer about 1/4” to 1/2” from the torn edge.
* Slip the second layer under each top layer piece let 1/4” to 1/2” peek out from under the top layer.
* Adhere the top piece and bottom piece in place on the card base. You can use glue or dimensionals.
* Add a greeting and embellishments (optional).
* Watch the video to see me demonstrate this process.

FAUX PAPER TEARING

Faux Paper Tearing is basically a masking technique. Start with a piece of masking paper. For my sample cards I used a piece that was 5 1/4”  (length) x 2 1/2” (height). Tear the masking paper in two pieces longways. Use these pieces to mask off the bottom portion and top portion of the cardstock. Fill in the unmasked space with a blending brush and ink, stamp images in the space, or fill the space in any way you like. Remove the masking paper and finish your card. If you do not have masking paper, printer paper works just fine. Cut the paper long enough to secure it to the work surface.

BASIC PAPER TEARING TECHNIQUES

These techniques are easy and result in great cards! There is no right or wrong way to use these techniques. I recommend tearing the paper toward you, because that results in that nice torn edge, but I don’t always tear that way. It is always okay to try a technique and add your own spin to it! So get your paper and start tearing it! You will love the results.

Thanks for stopping by today. Until next time. . .
Stamp Happy!
