CREATE A DOUBLE PINWHEEL BACKGROUND PANEL FOR QUILT INSPIRED CARDS

 Hi Stampers!

As many of you might recall, I love quilts and quilt patterns. There are several talented quilters in my family; I am not one of them! As close as I get to quilting is recreating quilt patterns in my crochet projects or in my paper crafting projects. Today’s cards were created using the double pinwheel quilt pattern. This pattern makes a great background piece for greetings or images, and the pattern is a great way to use up smaller scraps of Designer Series Paper (DSP). All the DSP used for today’s cards can be found in the STAMPIN’ UP!®️ SALE-A-BRATION BROCHURE. Let’s take a look at the cards:

HOW TO CREATE THE DOUBLE PINWHEEL PATTERN

SUPPLIES FOR THE DOUBLE PINWHEEL PANEL
* Cardstock 4” x 4” Basic White or any color you like (it will be covered up)
* DSP - 4 pieces cut in 2” x 2” squares - 2 pieces of the same pattern, 1 piece of another pattern and 1 piece of a third pattern
* Adhesive

CUTTING THE DSP SQUARES

Cut the two Pieces of DSP that are the same pattern in half diagonally
Cut the other two pieces of DSP in half diagonally twice (in an X)

ADHERING THE PIECES TO THE 4”x4” SQUARE OF CARDSTOCK

Adhere the 4 largest triangles to form the first pinwheel as shown above.

Adhere the 4 pieces of the second pattern to the cardstock (adhere them at center of the cardstock) to form the second pinwheel.

Adhere the remaining pieces as shown above to complete the background piece. Then finish your card.

KNIT SWEATER DIES, TIPS & IDEAS FOR USING THEM

 Hi Stampers!

My Grandma Ruth taught me to crochet when I was 12 years old. My grandma was a terrific teacher. Later in life I taught myself how to knit, but I was a poor teacher!🙂 This is why  I was excited to see the KNIT TOGETHER BUNDLE in the Stampin’ Up!®️ July-December 2021Mini Catalog. Finally I can create a knitted sweater! Of course the sweater is made of cardstock instead of yarn, but I am fine with that. Let’s take a look at the card!

For today’s card I used the KNIT TOGETHER stamp and the KNIT SWEATER DIES to create a book binder card. The stamped image looks so realistic! I love that!

KNIT TOGETHER STAMP

The KNIT TOGETHER stamp is a background stamp and measures 5 3/4” x 4 1/2”.  To stamp the image use CLEAR BLOCK F (6” x 4 7/8”) or the STAMPARATUS (Stamp Positioner).

KNIT SWEATER DIES

Here is the scoring diagram for the book binder card. For another example of a book binder card see yesterday’s post (21 October 2021).

(Click to enlarge.)

SUPPLIES FOR THE CARD
* Knit Together stamp set, Knit Sweater Dies, Perfectly Plaid stamp set for greetings (or greetings of choice)
* Card base - Basic White cut at 11” x 4 1/4” scored at 4 1/4” and 5 1/2” along the 11” side.
* Real Red and Basic White cardstock each cut at 4” x4”.
* Scrap of Basic White cardstock for greeting plus Stitched Rectangles Die that fits the greeting.
* Real Red Ink
* Real Red Sheer Ribbon - about 14”.
* Adhesive and dimensionals.

Watch the video below for tips on using the KNIT SWEATER DIES, and to see how I put together today’s card.

KNIT SWEATER DIES TIPS VIDEO

Here is the card I  put together in the video.

* The ribbon for this card is the Real Red Satin Double Stitched Ribbon found in the Annual Catalog. I used a piece about  5 1/2” long and another about 4” long.

I like the KNIT SWEATER DIES, and there are so many ways to combine the dies for different sweater looks. As I mentioned in the video the dies can be used to make a stencil to use with embossing paste for a great design on cards, use the little pieces (tree, deer, hearts, etc.) as shaker elements for a shaker card, etc.

* See page 34 in the mini catalog for sample cards using the ideas listed above.

That is all for today. Thank you for stopping by. Until next time…

REFLECTED IN NATURE BOOK BINDER BIRTHDAY CARD

Hi, Stampers!

The moment I saw the REFLECTED IN NATURE stamp set I knew it would become a part of my stamp collection! I tried convincing myself I did not need this stamp set. I told myself the stamp set was not all that versatile. I was NOT buying the stamp set! Ha ha ha! I bought the stamp set, and I am happy I did. I used the REFLECTED IN NATURE stamp set to create today’s card. Let’s take a look at the card:

(The lighter / whiter areas on the card are actually not. I have no idea why the photo turned out as it did.)

The card is a “book binder” card, and it is so easy to create.

Here is a look at the inside of the card.

Here is a look at the stamp set.

I also used the BIRCH background stamp for this card. The sentiment is from TIMELESS TULIPS.

SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD
* Card base - Soft Suede cardstock cut at 11” x 4 1/4” scored at 4 1/4” and 5 1/2” and folded at 5 1/2”
* Basic White cardstock cut at about 6” x4 1/4”, one piece cut at 4 1/4” square (for inside), and a large scrap for the focal image and greeting.
* Soft Suede cardstock - large scrap.
* Ink - Soft Suede and Crumb Cake
* Blending brush or sponge dauber.
* Crumb Cake twine.
* Adhesive and dimensionals.

SCORING & FOLDING

(Click to enlarge.)

Fold the card base on the 5 1/2” score line. Open the card and on the “inside” put adhesive between the 4 1/4” score line and the 5 1/2” score line and close the card.
NOTE - If you want to add (wrap) ribbon to the left side of the card, you should do it prior to applying the adhesive and adhering the left side of the card base or you can use the method I use for the twine on this card.

ASSEMBLING THE CARD
* Stamp the BIRCH stamp on the 6” x 4 1/4” piece of  Basic White with Soft Suede ink. (I used my STAMPARATUS).  Go over this piece with Crumb Cake ink and a blending brush or sponge dauber. Cut the piece onto three pieces - 4” square, 4” x 1”, and 4” x 1/2”.
* Stamp the focal image on large scrap of Basic White with Soft Suede, and stamp the greeting on the scrap as well. Go over the image and greeting with the blending brush and Crumb Cake ink. Fussy cut around the focal image and adhere it to the large scrap of Soft Suede cardstock. Following the outline of the focal image fussy cut the Soft Suede mat. Do the same for the greeting.
* Use the blending brush and Crumb Cake ink to add color to the 4” square piece of Basic White cardstock. Stamp the sentiment and eagle image on the cardstock with Soft Suede ink. Adhere to inside of the card.
* Adhere the 4” x 1” and 4” square BIRCH background pieces to the front of the card. Place adhesive at the top and bottom of the back side of the 4” x 1/2” piece, and wrap the twine around the piece 3 times. Adhere this piece centered over the 4” x 1” piece on the left side of the card.
* place dimensionals on the back of the focal image and center it over the background panel on the right side of the card.
* Adhere the greeting centered on the left side of the focal image.

I am so happy I did not talk myself out on purchasing this stamp set. I love the cabin image, and it is great for all types of masculine cards - birthday, encouragement, hello, congratulations, etc.

That is all for today. Thank you for stopping by. Until next time…
