Hi Stampers!

Here we are! Christmas is two weeks away. I hope your cards are finished or nearly so, and you have plenty of tags for all the gifts you are wrapping. If you are like me, sometime between now and Christmas you’ll find yourself needing an extra gift at some point. In my mind gift cards were created for times like those! So, today I thought we’d take a look at two super easy and really quick gift card holders! They are basically cards with a flap that serves as a great pocket for a gift card! Let’s take a look:

The two gift card holders on the left were made a couple years ago - maybe 3! I’ve yet to use them, but I will - maybe this year! The two on the right I made in the video that coordinates with posting. Watch the video to see the cards open, and to see how to create the gift card holders!

TWO SUPER EASY GIFT CARD HOLDERS TO WHIP UP 

IN NO TIME

LANDSCAPE SUPER EASY GIFT CARD HOLDER

WHAT YOU NEED TO CREATE THIS VERSION

* Card Base - cut cardstock at 9 1/4” x 5 1/2”

* Patterned Paper - 2 coordinating patterns; cut one at 2 3/4” (top flap); cut another at 1 3/4” x 5 1/4”

* Inside Panel - white or light colored cardstock cut at 5 1/4” x 4”

* Sentiment Piece - white or light colored cardstock for sentiment, cardstock same color as card base for mat, stamps, ink, dies or punches

* Adhesives

WHAT TO DO

* Score cardstock along 9 1/4” side at 3” and 7 1/4”

* Fold score lines toward center of card (valley folds), and go over with bone folder

* Stamp sentiment on inside panel - toward the top, centered left to right

* Adhere panel to inside of card centered.

* Adhere patterned paper pieces to front of card

* On back side of bottom flap apply adhesive to the right and left sides of the flap, fold up, and press

* Adhere sentiment to card. Keep adhesive near the top half of the sentiment to keep from adhering the card front down

PORTRAIT SUPER EASY GIFT CARD HOLDER

WHAT YOU NEED TO CREATE THIS VERSION

* Card Base - cut cardstock at 11” x 5 1/2”

* Patterned Paper - on this sample the patterned paper is cut at 5” x 3 3/4”, but you can use a 5 1/4” x 4” piece if you like, or any patterned paper layout that appeals to you.

* Inside panel - white or light colored cardstock - mine is cut at 5” x 3 3/4”

* Focal image of choice - the matted focal piece on my example measures 3 3/4” x 1 3/4”

* Stamps, inks, adhesives, etc

WHAT TO DO

* Score cardstock along base at 4 1/4” and 8 1/2”

* Fold score lines toward center of card (valley folds), go over folds with bone folder 

* The small flap will be on the left when the card is open. Place adhesive along the back side of the top and bottom edges of the flap. Press to adhere.

* Stamp greeting on inside panel and adhere inside card.

* Adhere patterned paper to card front.

* Add focal panel / greeting

SUPER EASY GIFT CARD HOLDERS

These gift card holder are super quick to create. Of course you can dress them up with ribbons and gems if you like. I like the idea of popping the gift cards inside an actual card. It adds that special and unique handmade touch to the gift. Pop the gift card inside, place the card in an envelope, write the recipient’s name on the front and stick a bow on it. It’s ready to go! Of course you can also send it through the mail!

Happy December! Can you believe we are just short of 3 weeks from Christmas? This year has flown by, and I am certain the pace won’t slow down now! I hope your cards are completed or almost complete. If not, it’s okay. Keep going, and just do the best you can do. If you haven’t made any cards, but would like to - it’s not too late. Today’s post might help you come up with ideas for cards you can make in a short amount of time.  Let’s take a look at the sample cards:

CHRISTMAS CARDS IN A HURRY

PATTERNED PAPER + A LARGE WORD STAMP

Do you have a life time supply of patterned paper? It’s time to use it! Cut full panels (5 1/2” x 4 1/4”) as I did for the card on the right, or cut the panels and mat them (panel - 5” x 3 3/4”; mat 5 1/4” x 4) as I did got the card on the left. Next choose a large word stamp. Merry Christmas, Joy, Peace, even Hello will work. Stamp a sentiment inside, add a few sequins or other embellishments, and the card is finished. Not all patterned paper lends itself to stamping a greeting directly on it, but many do! Lighter colored papers work best. I did use a stamping platform to stamp the greeting. This allowed me to stamp the greeting multiple times to get a richly colored sentiment.

BACKGROUND STAMPS 

Background stamps are great, because they cover a lot of space fast! As the stamps are so large, it is a good idea to use them with a stamping platform to ensure achieving a great result. The stamped panel can be adhered directly to the card base or it can be matted. Add a greeting and you are good to go. You can add fussy cut or die cut images if you like and if time allows.  To finish off the cards I added some embellishments. I zig-zagged some ribbon and attached it to the back side of the greeting on the card to the left.

LARGE WORD DIES / COVER PLATES

Do you have some large word dies? Die cut words make a great focal point for cards! The die set I used for these cards included the words and the background. I cut one each in blue and one each in white to create two cards. I added a mat of patterned paper to the blue card to add a bit more interest.

The die I used for these cards actually is an A-2 cover plate. I like that it creates not only the sentiment, but also a great frame. I used specialty papers on white cardstock to add an extra festive look, and finished it off with some shiny embellishments.

COVER PLATE DIES

For the next few cards I used cover plates or A-2 card front dies. They really speed up the card making process. Some of the dies cut out a 5 1/4” x 4” piece allowing for a nice border around the die cut. Others go over the entire card front and create great overall designs.

This design was created with two dies. I cut one of each color, layered them and adhered them to white card bases. I added die cut greetings with a few gems. Quick, easy, and quite merry!

Cover plates do not need to be specifically for Christmas. I used Garden Green cardstock for the die cut, and adhered it to a Real Red cardstock, added the greeting and a few gold embellishments. It looks very festive, don’t you think?

EMBOSSING FOLDERS

An easy way to create cards in a hurry is to use embossing folders. Like the cover plates, there is no need for them to be specifically for Christmas. A general design makes a great background for a Christmas image, or a greeting, or both!

CARDS IN A HURRY

I made 13 of these cards in 3 hours. The other two cards are from last year, but they are good examples of how great a card can be made in just a few minutes. Stamping the greeting in patterned paper was definitely quick. The embossed snowflake card was super quick! The sweater card took about 7 minutes, but remember the sweaters came from my premade box of images. Having that box of images turned out to be a real time saver. The card that took longest to create was the sheet music card. It took about 12 minutes to make. Using large greetings stamps, background stamps, cover plates, and embossing folders truly speeds up the card making process. So . . . if you still need some cards, why not give these ideas a try?

We are one month away from Christmas! I can’t believe it! How are your Holiday cards coming along? All finished, in envelopes, addressed, stamped and waiting to be mailed? Congratulations! Almost finished, just need to address envelopes. Great job! Still need a few more cards? Keep up the good work! Today’s projects might be for you! You are just beginning to think about making cards. Great. Today’s projects are definitely for you!

Believe it or not, today’s cards are fun folds! We’ll look at the Cut and Flip, Flap Card. It’s super easy to create, is perfect to showcase patterned papers, and adds a bit of an unexpected twist on the usual card. The second fun fold we’ll look at is the Bridge Fold Card. This card comes together quickly, is also a great  for showcasing patterned papers, and best of all it stands up perfectly. It is a great card for displays on tables or shelves.  Let’s take a peek at the sample cards:

TWO QUICK & EASY FUN FOLDS, PERFECT 

FOR WRAPPING UP HOLIDAY CARD MAKING!

CUT& FLIP, FLAP CARDS

WHAT YOU NEED

* Card Base - cardstock cut at 11” x 4 1/4”

* Patterned Paper - cut one at 5 1/4” x 4”, and one at 4” x 2 1/2” (for vertical section), and one at r” x 2 1/2” for horizontal flap. 

* Other Cardstock white or light colored cut at 4 1/4” x 2 3/4” or cut one any color at 4 1/4” x 2 3/4” plus a white or light color cardstock  cut at 4” x 2 1/2”

* Stamps, Inks, Dies, Embellishments, Adhesives, etc

WHAT TO DO

* Score card base on 11” side at 5 1/2”.

* Slide one end into the trimmer and cut at 2 3/4”. This is the piece you will flip to form the flap.

* Fold card base on score line, reenforce fold with bone folder.

* Adhere patterned paper pieces to front of card and inside card.

* Stamp message on light colored cardstock for inside card.

* Make greeting and / or images for front of card and adhere to flap. 

* Put adhesive on back of left side of flap, center on card front and press to adhere. 

* Open card, put adhesive on back of inside panel. 

* Line up inside panel by placing it face down on back side of flap. Close card to adhere. The inside panel should now line up perfectly behind the front flap. 

* Add embellishments.

* Cardstock - for card base cut cardstock at 8” x 4 1/4” and cut a piece the same color at 5 1/2” x 1”

* Patterned Paper - cut one at 5 1/4” x 3/4”, cut two at 4” x  2 3/4”   cut 2 or 4 at 4” x 1”

* Other Cardstock - light or light color - cut one at 3 3/4” x 2 1/2” for back panel, white or light colored to stamp and color and for greeting.

* Stamps, inks, dies, adhesives, etc to finish card.

WHAT TO DO

* Score card base on 8” side at 1 1/4” and 2 1/2” on each end (or score at 1 1/4”, 2 1/2”, 5 1/2” and 6 3/4”)

* Start at one end, fold mountain, valley, valley, mountain. Go over fold lines with bone folder.

* Stamp greeting on back panel, stamp greeting for front of card -punch or die cut greeting.

* Stamp and color focal image. Die cut or punch out if necessary.

* Adhere back panel to one of the 4” x 2 1/2” piece of patterned paper and attach it to middle panel on back of card.

* Adhere patterned paper to front of card and along the 5 1/2” x 1” strip of cardstock.

* Adhere greeting to center panel of card front.

* Put adhesive on the back side of the left hand side of the 5 1/2” strip (about 1” wide), do the same o the right hand side. Line up with left side of strip with left bottom edge of card base, and press to adhere. Fold on 2 1/2” score line to allow right side of strip to line up with bottom right side of card base and press down to adhere. 

* Adhere focal image(s) to strip / front of card.

* Add embellishments.

NOTE - This card does fit inside an A-2 envelope. Simply push down on the left side of the card and it will flatten to a 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” card.

It is the middle of November. Thanksgiving is coming next week, and Christmas is around the corner! If you still need an idea for your Holiday cards today’s card layout just might be for you! The layout lets patterned papers do the work. Add a greeting, a few embellishments, and you have a pretty card. This layout uses 3 pieces of patterned paper- and yes, they can be scraps, a card base, an inside layer, a greeting, and embellishments (optional).  Let’s take a look at the sample cards:

A QUICK LAYOUT THAT SHOWS OFF 

PRETTY HOLIDAY PAPERS

WHAT YOU NEED

* Card Base - A-2 - cut cardstock at 8 1/2’ x 5 1/2” score and fold at 4 1/4” or 11”x 4 1/4” scored and folded at 5 1/2”.

* Inside Panel - white or light colored cardstock 5 1/4” x 4” (optional)

* Patterned Paper - 3 coordinating designs; cut 1 at 5 1/8” x 1 1/2”, cut 1 at 2 1/4” x 1 3/4” and cut 1 more at 2 1/4” x 3 1/4”.

* Ink, stamps, cardstock, dies, embellishments, adhesives, and other items needed to finish the card

WHAT TO DO 

* Prepare card base, go over fold with bone folder

* Adhere the pieces of patterned paper to the front of the card base as shown in the diagram below. Do the best you can to leave an even border around the pieces of paper along the tops, bottoms, and sides. 

* Stamp sentiment and / or images on inside panel and adhere to inside of card. 

* Stamp greeting and add to card front.

* Add embellishments.

LAYOUT MEASUREMENTS AND PLACEMENT

The card front measures 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”. Be sure to take care when cutting directional papers. Place the patterned pieces on the card base leaving an even border on all sides.

NOTE - You can change the placement of the paper pieces, and the orientation of the card for different looks.

I used the same version of this layout for all the sample cards, but the video cards demonstrate how you can easily change the orientation of the card, or reverse the positions of the paper left to right, or switch the positions of the two 2 1/4” wide pieces for even more variations. CREATE A SLIDING GIFT CARD HOLDER - TWO WAYS; A STAMP HAPPY HOLIDAYS POST 🎄

Hi Stampers!

Here we are coming up on the middle of November. How are your Christmas projects coming along? I think I will have plenty of cards. I need a few more tags, but mostly I need something for gift cards. So, today’s projects are cards that double as gift card holders. I call these Sliding Gift Card Holders, because when you open the card the gift card slides up or pops up. I made a landscape and a portrait version. Both fit inside a A-2 size envelope. Neither is difficult to create. When decorating them keep it simple or dress it up! It’s totally up to you. Let’s take a look at the sample projects:

LANDSCAPE VERSIONS

WHAT YOU NEED

* Card Base - cut cardstock at 8 1/2” x 5 1/2”, score at 2 1/2” and 61/2” along 8 1/2” side

* Patterned Paper - cut one at 2 1/4” x 5 1/4” and another at 1 3/4” x 5 1/4” - the papers can be the same designs or different designs. 

* Sliding Mechanism - cut cardstock at 3 3/4” x 4”, score along the 4”side at 1/2”, cut a piece of patterned paper at 2” x 4” this forms the pocket for the gift card. 

    OPTIONAL MECHANISM - CUT CARDSYOCK AT 5 3/4” X 4”  score along the 5 3/4” side at at 1/2” and 3 3/4”

* Stamps, inks, dies, other Cardstock for stamping & die cutting, strong adhesives, etc. 

WHAT TO DO

* Card base - fold score lines toward center of card (valley folds), go over with bone folder.

* Adhere mats to upper and lower flaps on card front. 

* Assemble sliding mechanism. Fold 1/2”score line (mountain fold), put adhesive along bottom and on both sides of the 2” x 4” piece of patterned paper or cardstock, adhere it along bottom edge of mechanism.

    OPTIONAL MECHANISM - fold the 1/2” score line (mountain fold) and fold the 3 3/4” score line (valley folds). Run bone folder over folds. Place adhesive along the right and left sides of the fold. (3 3/4” score line). Fold up to form pocket.

* Place adhesive along the 1/2” flap. Open cardbase with 2 1/2” wide flap at the top. Adhere mechanism just above the score line centered to the left and right. 

* Put adhesive along the left side and right side of the 2” flap at the bottom of the card base. Press to adhere. Slip bottom of mechanism under the 2” flap. 

* Place greeting and / or images on front of card

* Optional - add white or light colored cardstock panel cut at 5 1/4” x 4” to back of card. This panel can be used for an additional sentiment and give extra room for a greeting.

PORTRAIT VERSIONS

WHAT YOU NEED

* Card Base - cut cardstock at 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”

* Small Card - cut cardstock at 8 1/2” x 3 1/2” - score at 4 1/4” on 8 1/2” side.

* Mechanism - cut cardstock at 5 3/4” x 3 3/8” - score at 1/2” and 4” on 5 3/4” side

* Patterned Paper - cut one ay 5 1/4” x 4”, cut one at 4” x 2 1/2”, for front of card.  For small card cut one at 4” x 3 1/4”; for inside to decorate pocket cut one at 3 1/8” x 1 1/2”

* Cardstock Strip - cut at 4” x 1/4” (optional)

* Back Panel - cut 1 from white or light colored cardstock at 5 1/4” x 4”

* Stamps, ink, dies, adhesive - other things needed to complete your card

WHAT TO DO

* Adhere 5 1/4” x 4” patterned paper to card base

* Adhere stamped back panel to back of card base.

* Adhere 4” x 3 1/4” pattern paper to front of small card.

* Adhere the small card to the card base centered left to right, and leaving the same amount of border at the top as on the sides.

* Fold mechanism score lines, the score line at 1/2” is a mountain fold, the one at 4” is a valley folds.

* At 4” score line fold apply adhesive on the right and left sides of the flap and adhere to form a pocket.

* Adhere the 3 1/8” x 1 1/2” piece of patterned paper centered on the front of the pocket. 

* Apply adhesive to the 1/2” flap of the mechanism. Open the small card and adhere the mechanism centered just above the center score line of the small card.

* Leave small card open. Adhere the cardstock strip along the top of the 4” x 2 1/2” piece of patterned paper. Place adhesive on the back of this piece along the bottom and sides and adhere to card base - line up with first layer of patterned paper. This forms another pocket.

* Guide the mechanism into the pocket as you close the small card.

* Add a greeting and / or images to the front of the card
