MAKING A SCENE - CREATE A FUN SCENE ON A STAND ALONE CARD THAT FITS IN AN A-2 ENVELOPE

 Hi Stampers!

Today’s cards are a bit different from the standard greeting card. These scenic cards stand up making them perfect for displaying, and the cards fit perfectly inside a STAMPIN’ UP!®️ medium envelope (A-2 size). The card base one piece of 5 1/2” x 3 3/4” cardstock. The card front is a piece of window sheet (acetate) attached to the base using two box sleeves (sometimes called pillars or towers). To see a previous post about box sleeve cards click HERE.

Here is a peek at the cards:

This card design is easy to create, full of dimension, and is truly “Oh wow!” worthy. Watch the video below to see how I put the card together.

SEAS THE DAY WITH EASTER FRIENDS AND FLOATING GATE FOLD CARDS

 Hi Stampers!

I enjoy creating fun interactive cards, especially pop up cards! Today’s cards were created using the Floating Gate Fold Fun Fold. This fun fold is first and foremost a gate fold card, meaning it opens from the center. When the card is opened the images inside appear to be “floating” or popping up. This fun fold is very easy to make, and is sure to put a smile on the face of the recipient.

Let’s take a look at the cards:

Be sure to watch the video below to see how to assemble the Floating Gate Fold Card and learn how to adjust the size of the “floating mechanism” to fit any size image.

TIPS FOR MAKING THE FLOATING GATE FOLD CARD

* Card dimensions and scoring
    Portrait Orientation - 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored along the 8 1/2” side at 2 1/8” and 6 3/8” (or score at 2 1/8” from each end); fold the scored lines toward the inside of the card.
    Landscape orientation - 11” x 4 1/4” scored along the 11” side at 2 3/4” and 8 1/4” (or score at 2 3/4” from each end); fold the scored lines toward the inside of the card.
Note - it is best to use smaller images on the floating mechanisms when creating this card using landscape orientation.

* Apply adhesive on back of left side of focal panel only so as not to adhere the card closed.

* To determine the width of the strips for the “floating” mechanism, measure the width height of the image area you will attach to the mechanism. This is not the height of the entire image. I find strips of 1/2”, 3/4” or 1” tend to work for most images.

* To determine the length of the strips  for the “floating” mechanism, measure the width (at widest point) of the image, add 3” to this number to get the length of the strip.

* Scoring the “floating” mechanism strip - score at 1” from one end, turn 180 degrees and score at 1” and 2”. The length between the sets of score lines will equal the width of your image.

* Before adhering floating mechanisms in place, check to make sure images on the floating mechanism do not go above or below the card base, and check to be sure there is clearance space between the floating images.

BOX SLEEVE FUN FOLD CARDS - ONE BASIC MECHANISM FOR CARDS THAT POP UP, STAND UP, AND STAND OUT!

 Hi Stampers!

Today I am sharing three fun fold cards I call box sleeve cards.  The mechanism making them fun folds is basically a box sleeve. “Kim, what in the world is a box sleeve,” you ask? Think match box; the cover that slides on and off is the box sleeve. In card making a box sleeve type mechanism or modified versions, allows card elements to pop up, stand up, and stand out! Let’s take a look at the cards I created:

The daffodil card is a regular card base with a box sleeve attached to the bottom front of the card. The box sleeve allows the focal image to stand out from the card. For the middle card (Seas the Day) the box sleeve is used as a pop up mechanism inside the card. The yard tools card is a modified box sleeve card that stands on its own.
A great thing about these fun folds is they fit in a regular A-2 sized envelope! (Stampin’ Up!®️ Medium Envelopes)
Watch the video below to see how each card base goes together.

 DIMENSION FOR ALTERNATE “SLEEVE” SHOWN IN VIDEO

For this version of the STAND ALONE BOX SLEEVE CARD the box sleeve is separate from the card base, and is a partial sleeve.
* For the sleeve cut cardstock at 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” (1/4 sheet of cardstock)
* Score along the 5 1/2” side at 1/2”, 1 3/4”, 3 3/4”m and 5”
* Fold along score lines - all are mountain folds.
* Place adhesive on two end tabs and adhere to card starting along the bottom edge of the card base.

* Adhere the cardstock for the focal panel to the card base.

Why not give these cards a try? To create the cards in landscape orientation just adjust the length of the box sleeve. For example, to create a landscape orientation pop up card adjust the length of the box sleeve to 5 1/4” (or 5 1/2” if you want the mechanism to span across the entire card). The scoring will remained the same.

That’s it for today. Thank you for stopping by. Until next time…
