CARDMAKING - THERE ARE ALWAYS OPTIONS!

 Hi Stampers!

Today’s post is all about options! One of my favorite things about cardmaking is the fact there are always options!  Today’s cards demonstrate how one card design can be used to make three similar, but different cards by choosing different options.

I used two stamp sets from the Stampin’ Up!®️ 2021-2022 Annual Catalog for today’s cards:

PARTY PUFFINS

WATERCOLOR SHAPES

Here is a look at the cards:

SUPPLIES FOR THESE CARDS
* Basic White (Thick) card base and 2 Coastal Cabana card bases - 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4”
* 4 pieces of Basic White cardstock cut at 5” x 3 3/4” - 2 for card fronts and 2 for inside the Coastal Cabana card bases, plus scrap for greetings.
* Basic Black cut at 5 1/8” x 3 7/8”, and 2” x 3/4”.
* Sticky note or small piece of printer paper to make a mask for the greeting on the basic white card.
* Inks -  Memento Tuxedo Black and Coastal Cabana; For the No Layer Basic White Card - Stampin’ Write Markers - Daffodil Delight, Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry; For the other two cards - Stampin’ Blends - Daffodil Delight (light and dark), Pool Party (dark), Bermuda Bay (light), Granny Apple Green (dark), Pumpkin Pie(dark)
* Embellishments - Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels (Coastal Cabana), Pool Party Shear Ribbon (5-5 1/2”), Baker’s Twine (black).
* Adhesive of choice, tape, and dimensionals.

OPTION 1 - NO LAYER CARD

TO MAKE THIS CARD:
* Ink the Watercolr Shapes stamp with Coastal cabana ink. Stamp it toward the top center of the Basic White card base. Ink the stamp again, and stamp it on the sticky note toward the top where the adhesive is located. Cut out the mask, and set it aside.
* Ink the greeting stamp with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and stamp it on top of the Watercolor Shapes image.
* Cover the greeting with the mask. Ink the candle image stamp with the Tuxedo Black ink, and stamp on the card front. Repeat the process until the card front is covered with the candle images. Remove the mask.
* Use the Stampin’ Write Markers to add color to the candles. (Note - Stampin’ Blends will bleed through the cardstock to some degree, this is why the Stampin’ Write Markers are the best “option” for this card.)
* Embellish the card with rhinestones.

OPTION 2 - FOCAL PANEL LAYER, RIBBON, & DIMENSIONALS

TO MAKE THIS CARD:
* Stamp the greeting as for the previous card, except stamp it on the scrap of Basic White cardstock. Fussy cut the image and set aside.
* On one of the pieces of 5” x 3 3/4” of Basic White cardstock, stamp the candle images with the tuxedo black ink.
* Color the images with the Stampin’ Blends (or the Stampin’ Write Markers).
* Adhere the focal panel layer to the card base.
* Adhere the ribbon to the back of the greeting. Attach this piece with dimensionals to the card centered and toward the bottom of the panel.
* Embellish with the rhinestones.

OPTION 3 - LAYERS AND TWINE

TO MAKE THIS CARD:
* Stamp the greeting as for the previous card, fussy cut it, and  adhere it to the Basic Black mat (2” x 3/4”). Place dimensionals on back of greeting.
* Stamp the focal panel and color the images as for the previous card. Adhere the focal panel to the Basic Black mat (51/8” x 3 7/8”).
* Tape the end of the black baker’s twine to the back of the focal panel just below the halfway point. Wrap the twine around the panel 3-4 times, cut the twine and tape the end to the back of the card. Adhere the greeting to the card front over the twine toward the right side of the card. Take about 12” of twine, fold it in half, slip under the twine on the card panel, and tie a bow.
* Adhere the focal panel to the card base.
* Embellish with the rhinestones

Inside each card I stamped the Happy Birthday from the PARTY PUFFINS stamp set. I stamped the sentiment directly on the card base of the Basic White no layer card. I used the remaining two pieces of 5” x 3 3/4” Basic Whit cardstock for the inside of the Coastal Cabana card bases.

One basic design - three option! What could be better? How about unlimited options? Each of the cards I made can be changed a bit here or there by changing up the colors, or how about using a blending brush to add a bit of color (or colors) to the Basic White cardstock? How about cutting the focal panel into thirds, matting them, and adhering to the cardbase? Or how about........, well.... the options are truly endless.

That is all for today. Thank you for stopping by. Until next time...

USE A LAYER OF DESIGNER SERIES PAPER TO MAKE PRETTY CARDS IN NO TIME

 Hi Stampers!

I love this time of year! There are flowers everywhere around our house. Many of the perennials are beginning to bloom, the annuals in the gardens are growing so quickly, the daisies and other wild flowers are popping up, and the petunias and geraniums on my front porch are bursting with color! Today’s cards are inspired by all those flowers! The pretty floral patterned Hand-Penned DSP is so pretty all you need to do is add a greeting (and maybe a bit of ribbon) and you have a beautiful card in no time at all.  Let’s take a peek the cards.

Each card features a layer of floral print paper from the Hand-Penned DSP. I used two stamp sets for the greetings.  The backgrounds for the greetings were stamped using the WATEECOLOR SHAPES stamp set. The greetings are from the BIGGEST WISH stamp set.

WATERCOLOR SHAPES

BIGGEST WISH

The measurements for the card bases and layers are the same for all the cards:
* Card Base - 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4” or 11” x 4 1/4” scored and folded 5 1/2”
* Contrasting cardstock layer - 5 1/8” x 3 7/8”
* DSP layer - 5” x 3 3/4”
* All the greetings were stamped on Basic White cardstock and punched out, die cut or fussy cut.
* All the greetings (words) were stamped with Cinnamon Cider ink.
* All the greetings are attached to the cards with dimensionals.

The card base is Cinnamon Cider, the contrasting cardstock layer is Blushing Bride. The floral DSP was adhered to the Blushing Bride cardstock. This piece was adhered to the card base. The background for the greeting was stamped with Blushing Bride ink. The greeting was punched out with the Double Oval Punch. The Cinnamon Cider mat was also punched out with the Double Oval Punch.

The card base for this card is Cinnamon Cider. The contrasting cardstock layer is Petal Pink. The background for the greeting was stamped with Petal Pink ink and die cut with the Stitched Rectangles Dies. The Cinnamon Cider mat was die cut using the same set of dies. The floral DSP was adhered to the cardstock layer. The Petal Pink Organdy Striped Ribbon was wrapped around the piece and tied in a bow. This piece was adhered to the card base. The greeting was placed a bit off center toward the right.

This card base is Pale Papaya. The contrasting cardstock layer is Cinnamon Cider. The background for the greeting was stamped with Pale Papaya ink and the greeting was stamped with Cinnamon Cider ink. I fussy cut the image and mounted it on a Cinnamon Cider mat. I adhered the floral DSP to the cardstock mat, and wrapped the Pale Papaya Open Weave Ribbon around the piece and tied it in a bow. This piece was adhered to the card base. The sentiment piece was again place a bit off center toward the right of the card.

The contrasting cardstock is Basic White. The greeting background was stamped with Soft Succulent ink. The greeting was stamped with Cinnamon Cider ink. The greeting was fussy cut and matted on a piece of Cinnamon Cider cardstock. The floral patterned DSP was adhered to the Basic White cardstock. Soft Succulent Open Weave Ribbon was wrapped around the piece and tied in a bow. The piece was attached to the card base. The greeting was centered closer to the top of the card.

The card base is So Saffron. The contrasting layer is Cinnamon Cider. The greeting background was stamped with So Saffron ink. The greeting was stamped with Cinnamon Cider ink. I die cut the greeting and the Cinnamon Cider mat wit the Layering Circles Dies. The floralDSP was adhered to the cardstock mate. The Bumblebee 1/4” Gingham Ribbon was wrapped around the piece and tied in a bow. The greeting was adhered in the upper center area of the piece. The piece was adhered to the card base.

These cards go together quickly, and that means you can make cards and still have plenty of time to get outside and enjoy all that summer has to offer! What could be better?

That is all for today. Thank you for stopping by. Until next time...
