DINO KIDS
JUST BECAUSE CARDS FOR KIDS
If you are like me, you make a lot of cards. I find most of my cards are for special occasions; birthdays, graduations, weddings, new babies, anniversaries, holidays, etc. Sometimes my cards are for solemn occasions, or for times when friends and family members need encouragement. I send out lots and lots of birthday cards to the children in my life, but the other day I realized I do not send those children “just because” cards!
With everything going on in our country and the world right now I feel many times we as a society overlook how the circumstances effect children. Make no mistake, children are resilient, but children are human too. Life is sometimes bewildering, overwhelming, and frightening for them, just like it can be for adults.
Lately I have sent handmade cards of encouragement to many friends and family members, but none to children. That changed today. Will receiving a card in the mail make life’s troubles go away? No, but receiving a card in the mail is guaranteed to bring smiles! We all need more smiles!
For my cards I chose the DINO DAYS stamp set and matching dies. What kid can say no to dinosaurs? None that I know! These images are simple, cheery, and just plain fun!
CARDSTOCK:
For the Just Jade card base the cardstock is cut at 5 1/2“ x 8 1/2”, scored along the 8 1/2” side at 2 1/8” and 6 3/8” - fold score lines toward center of card base. The Magenta Madness card base is cut at 4 1/4“ x 11“, scored at 2 3/4” and 8 1/4” - fold score lines toward center of card base. For the inside of each card cut one piece of Whisper White cardstock 5” x 3 3/4” for each card. For the focal panels cut one piece of Whisper White cardstock at 3” x 3 3/4” for each card. Cut a mat for layering the focal panel at 3 1/2“ x 4 1/4“ from a cardstock of a contrasting color. I chose Bumble Bee and Misty Moonlight. You will also need scraps of Whisper White for stamping images. The Just Jade card’s orientation is portrait, and the Magenta Madness card’s orientation is landscape.
My Stampin’ Up! ®️ order containing the 2020-22 ink pads has not made its way to my door yet, but it is on its way!!!!! So... I chose inks I felt would work well together and with the cardstock; Mint Macaron, Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo, Gorgeous Grape, and Soft Suede.
Here are the adhesives I used on the cards. Stampin’ Up! has replaced the snail adhesive with the new Stampin’ Seal. My Stampin’ Seal is with the order that is making its way to my door. For the cards I used all the adhesives shown, except for glue dots, but glue dots can be used. Please, note the silicone craft sheet. I place whatever needs adhesive applied on that craft sheet. It keep me from getting adhesive all over my work space. Yes, I can be a messy crafter!
Stamp the images. The Dino Days stamp set is photopolymer, so I was able to bend the tree truck stamp slightly and stamp it. I stamped the two front flaps of each card using the cluster of dots stamp.
Die cut the images. The bent tree trunk was fussy cut. The photopolymer stamp is bendable; the die - not so much!
Adhere the die cut images to the panels. I used dimensionals to hold the top palm leaves in place, and to adhere the dinosaurs. I used snail to adhere the remaining palm leaves and the tree trunks. Adhere the focal panels to the appropriate mat. Next place adhesive on one side of the matted focal image. I chose to place the adhesive on the “tree” side of the panel making the card open from the left, but having the card open from the right is also an option.
As a finishing touch I added some 2020-2022 In Color Enamel Dots to each card.
Here is a look at the inside of the card’s. I mounted the Whisper White inside panels at an angle to add a bit of whimsy.
My Dino Days cards for Dino Kids came together in no time, they were just that easy! I hope you give them a try, and send them to the Dino Kids in your life.
Stamp Happy!
Kim
