INKING & ADDING COLOR TO FINELY DETAILED STAMPS

CLASSIC STAMPIN’ PADS (INK PADS) METHOD

This is the easiest way to put color on a stamp, and we do it all the time. At first seeing a flower stamped with just one color looks a bit odd or maybe even boring. We expect flowers to have colorful blooms with yellow or dark centers, and of course flowers have green stems and green leaves! Floral images stamped using a single color can create a focal point with the look of simple elegance.

Another way to use the single colored stamp image is as a background piece. Just stamp the image multiple times on the cardstock.

INKING STAMPS WITH SPONGE DAUBERS AND / OR STAMPIN’ WRITE MARKERS

Inking stamps using Stampin’ Write Markers (dye based ink) or sponge daubers with ink pads are easy ways to add different colors to different areas of the stamp. Using the markers to apply ink onto a stamp allows more precise control as to where each color of ink goes. Use the brush tip of the marker to put color directly on the stamp. Once all the color has been applied to the stamp, use the “huffing” technique to re-moisten the ink. Simple hoof the inked side of stamp a couple of inches from your mouth, open your mouth and exhale with a “huh” sound, and stamp the image onto the cardstock.

Sponge daubers allow for a bit less precision of where the color goes, but it is a great method for adding  a bit of shading and dimension to the image. Simply tap the sponge end of the dauber on the ink pad, the tap the inked dauber lightly on a piece of scrap paper to remove excess ink if you like. Ink the area of the stamp you want to be that color. Move on to the next color. Once all the ink colors are on the stamp, use the huffing technique to re- moisten the ink, and stamp.

When applying ink to stamps with markers or sponge daubers it is best to start with the lightest color first, move on to the next color, and end with the darkest color.

If one of the colors of ink covers a spot you do not want it to cover, simply wipe the ink away with the corner of a damp paper towel.
