LET’S MAKE A DIAGONAL Z FOLD CARD - IT’S EASIER THAN YOU THINK!

Hi Stampers!

Sometimes I want to step things up a bit, and create a card that is a little different and a tiny bit more challenging than a regular A-2 card.  This is when I pull out my Z Fold card folder! In that folder are instructions and diagrams for several different versions of a Z Fold card. Today’s cards are all samples of  a Diagonal Z Fold Card. This card fold is perfect for using what you have on hand. Use your scraps, embellishments you’ve been wanting to use, and of course any stamps you like! Let’s take a look at the cards:

WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT A DIAGONAL Z FOLD CARD?

1. It is a fun fold! We all like fun folds!
2. Like a basic A-2 card, one piece of 8 1/2” x 11” cardstock yields 2 card bases.
3. Using patterned paper for the layers helps use up scraps!
4. This card fits in an A-2 size envelope.
5. It is a stand alone card, making it great for displaying.
6. The card is easy to make!

CREATING DIAGONAL Z FOLD CARDS,
IT’S EASIER THAN YOU THINK!

BASIC SUPPLIES FOR THE DIAGONAL Z FOLD CARD

* Card base - Cardstock - 1 piece 8 1/2” x 11” (cutting and scoring directions below). Each piece of cardstock makes 2 card bases.
* Patterned paper - One piece each of 3 coordinating designs per card base cut as follows:
                                                 Length               Width
    Left (small)                            3 1/2”      x        2 3/4”
    Middle (faces front of card)  4 1/4”      x        3 1/2”
    Right (Large)                        5 1/4        x         4”
* Inside Panel - optional - white or light colored cardstock cut at 4 1/4” long x  3 1/2” wide - adhere to middle section “inside” the card.
* Adhesives
* Tools - Paper trimmer, scissors (optional), score board or trimmer with scoring blade, ruler (optional)
* Other - Stamps, Inks, Dies, Punches,Embellishments

MAKING THE CARD BASES

* Along one of the 8 1/2” sides of the card measure 3” from the bottom up and mark with pencil.
* Along the other 8 1/2” side measure 3” from the top down and mark with pencil.
* Place in paper trimmer, line up the pencil marks along the cutting track, and cut.
    (This process makes two card bases.)

SCORING

* With the 11” side at the top of  the score board or trimmer and the longer side of the card base to the left, score the cardstock at 4 1/4” and 8”.

FOLDING THE CARD BASE

* The left (smaller) side of the card score line is a mountain fold, the next score line is a valley fold.

ADDING THE PATTERNED PAPER & INSIDE PANEL (optional).

* Line up the smallest piece of patterned paper on the left hand section of the card. There should be a 1/8” border of cardstock (approximately) to the left, right, and bottom of the patterned paper.
* Push the paper up until there is a 1/4” border of cardstock at the bottom.
* Holding the paper in place, flip the card over then using the card base as a guide, cut off the excess paper. OR once you flip the card over take a pencil and use the cardbase to draw a cutting line, then cut along line with scissors or trimmer.
* Adhere the patterned paper to the card base leaving a 1/8” border of cardstock around the paper.
* Repeat this process with each piece of patterned paper, and the inside panel (if using).
🚩 Watch corresponding video for information on making templates for the diagonal panels.

* Finish the card by adding sentiments, images, die cuts, embellishments, etc.

How easy is that? I really enjoyed creating these cards. They are challenging enough to break up my routine, but easy enough I can create two of them fairly quickly. Now, are you ready for a bonus card fold?

BONUS CARD FOLD
DIAGONAL Z FOLD MINI SLIMLINE CARD

This version of the Diagonal Z Fold Card is created in a similar manner as the A-2 size card. Unlike the A-2 version, the three sections of the mini slimline version are the same width - 3 1/4”. The diagonal edges of the patterned paper are created exactly the same way as for the A-2 version. You will need the same supplies as for the A-2 size card. Here are the cutting measurements for the mini slimline card.

CUTTING & SCORING

* Card base - Cardstock cut at 6 1/2” x 9 3/4” - along the 6 1/2” side (left hand) measure up 4” from the bottom and mark with a pencil. Place in paper trimmer and line up pencil mark with the right hand top corner and cut. Score along the 9 3/4” side at 3 1/4” and 6 1/2”. Fold - short end is a mountain fold, next fold is a valley fold.

* Patterned Paper
                                  Tall.        Wide
   Left (small)            4 1/2”  x    3”
   Middle (medium)  5 1/2”   x    3”
   Right (large)          6 1/4”   x    3”

This card fits into a letter size envelope.

There you go, two diagonal z fold cards. Both cards are easy to create, help use up scraps, and will put a smile on the faces of the recipients! Why not give them a try?

That's all for today. Thank you so much for stopping by.  Until next time . . .
