CASEing the 50’s - RECREATING RETRO HOLIDAY CARDS - A STAMP HAPPY HOLIDAYS POST

Hi Stampers!

Where do you find inspiration for your Christmas cards? For me, I look through older Christmas cards to find color schemes, card layouts, and design ideas. One great place to find inspiration and hundreds of examples of cards from Christmases past is Pinterest. That is exactly what I did for today’s cards. I enjoy creating cards inspired by certain decades, especially the 50’s and 60’s. Today’s cards are my interpretations of cards from the 1950’s I found on Pinterest. Let’s take a look:

I CASEd (Copy And Share Everything) these cards from cards I found on Pinterest. You can see the original cards and a few others by viewing my Pinterest board.

CASEing THE 50’s - RECREATING RETRO CHRISTMAS CARDS

ORNAMENTS FOR CHRISTMAS

WHY I CASED THIS CARD

To me this card represents tradition. The red and green color scheme, a Christmas tree, and shiny ornaments - all very traditional elements of Christmas. These traditions were established prior to the 50’s and are still in practice today 70+ years later. I like how this card represents what was passed down to us, and what we are passing down to the next generations.

SUPPLIES I USED
* Card base - Shaded Spruce cardstock 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4”
* Card layer - Real Red cardstock 5 1/4” x 4”
* Inside panel - White cardstock 5 1/4”
* Ornaments - Scraps of white cardstock, ornament dies (stamps with dies or punches would be great too), red foil cardstock for center of larger ornament (any shiny, glimmery paper will work), gold cord for tops of ornaments about 8” total
* Inks - Shaded Spruce, Real Red (inside greeting), White Craft ink refill for spatters; Versa Mark & White Embossing Powder for greeting; Stampin’ Blends (alcohol markers) - Wild Wheat (light & dark), Old Olive (light & dark), Real Red (light), Shaded Spruce (light); Wink of Stella
* For spatters - Water to mix with a couple drops of the white re-inker, paint brush and something to tap against the paint brush such as a bone folder, pencil, etc.
* Greetings of choice for outside and inside of card
* Adhesives & dimensionals

BIRDS AND HOLLY CARD

Here is the stamp I used for this card. The birds on a holly branch came from PSX. The company no longer exists, but their stamps are still available via eBay and other such outlets.

WHY I CASEd THIS CARD

I was attracted to the simplicity of this card layout. Birds with holly seem to be a frequent theme for Holiday greetings, and I was excited to have an opportunity to use the stamp.

SUPPLIES I USED
* Card base - Very Vanilla cardstock 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4”
* Focal panel - Soft Succulent cardstock 4 1/2” x 3”
* Focal image - White cardstock
* Inks - Memento Tuxedo Black, Real Red, Soft Succulent; Stampin’ Blends - Real Red (light & dark), Shaded Spruce (light & dark), Soft Succulent (light), Crumb Cake (light & dark), Ivory, Pumpkin Pie (light), Daffodil Delight (dark)
* Image - Bird(s) with holly and greeting
* Adhesive and dimensionals

NOEL SLIMLINE CARD

WHY I CASEd THIS CARD

I wanted to make this card, because it is festive and elegant. It is also the most challenging of the three.

SUPPLIES I USED
* Card base - Balmy Blue cardstock cut at 9 1/4” x 8” scored along the 8” side at 4”
* Letters - Crumb Cake cardstock scraps and NOEL or alphabet dies
* Snowflakes - Dies - 2 one smaller than the other, white cardstock for 4 of the smaller snowflakes, and gold foil for the 4 larger snowflakes
* Gold embellishments - these are the center portion of the larger die cut snowflakes
* Inks - Balmy Blue, Gold (Delicata Golden Glitz), Wink of Stella - clear for letters and gold for spatters
* Tools - blending brush for Balmy Blue ink; sponge to sponge gold along edges of card; bone folder to use with gold Wink of Stella for spatters
* Liquid adhesive for snowflakes & dimensionals for letters
