CREATE TROPHY FUN FOLD CARDS FOR CHRISTMAS - A STAMP HAPPY HOLIDAYS POST

Hi Stampers!

Welcome to Stamp Happy Holidays! Today we are making a basic trophy card, and then we’ll create one with a bit of a twist. Not to worry both styles are easy to create. Let take a peek at the sample cards.

These are my samples of a basic trophy card. Basically it is a box-like base with a center panel. The base of these cards measures 1” tall x 4 1/4” wide. The sentiment strips are 3/4” x 4”. In the past when I created trophy cards the base measured 1 1/4” tall x 4 1/4” wide. The sentiment strip measured 1” x 4”. If you would prefer your base to be 1 1/4” tall you can see  THIS post for instructions. Later in this post I will list the measurements  for the version with the 1 1/4” base.

Okay, so here is my twist; switch out the center panel for a die cut. I used a Christmas tree die cut for mine, but you could use a snowman, wreaths, sleds, a birthday cake, whatever you like. The total height of the die cut cannot exceed 4 1/2” and the width cannot exceed 4 1/4” if you plan to put the card inside an A-2 sized envelope. The die cuts are supported by an upside down “T” shaped piece of cardstock. Here are my samples:

CREATE TWO TYPES OF TROPHY CARDS FOR CHRISTMAS - OR ANYTIME!

BASIC TROPHY CARD

CARDSTOCK
* For base - 1 piece cut at 8” x 4 1/4” - score at 1”, 2”, 3”, 4”, 5”, 6”, and 7”
   Along the 4” score line cut from 5/8” to 3 5/8” to form a slit.
   Fold along the score lines (all are mountain folds) and go over folds with bone folder.
* For base panel (I use the same color cardstock as for the base) cut one at 5 1/2” x 2 3/4”
   Slip this panel one inch down through the slit made in the base. Apply adhesive to the inch of the panel
   below the slit and fold down the top 1” section over the adhesive. Turn the piece over and repeat the
   process. Basically you are placing the panel between the two outer sections of the base, and forming
   two square tubes.
* Mat layer - cut cardstock at 4 1/4 x 2 1/2”
* Focal panel - cut cardstock at 4” x 2 1/4”
* Greeting - cut cardstock at 3/4” x 4”
* Patterned paper - cut 3 at 3/4” x 4”
* Panel for back of card - for second greeting and signing, cut cardstock at 4 1/4” x 2 1/2”

DIE CUT TROPHY IMAGE CARD

For this version of the card you will the cardstock for the base, the base panel, the strip for the greeting, and the patterned paper pieces listed for the basic trophy card plus the die cut image(s) of your choice. You will need two of each die cut, one for the front and one for the back side. The backside die cut should be white or a light color for stamping a greeting and signing.
* Card base - prepare as for the basic version by adding the slit and creasing the score lines.
* The base panel will need to be turned into a “T” shape. Place the 2 3/4” side of the base panel along the
   top of the trimmer at the 1” mark. Cut from 0 to 4 1/2”. Turn the cardstock over and repeat on the
   opposite side. Now place the cardstock in the trimmer along the 5 1/2” side (cut ends facing to the
    right) at 1”. Cut from 0 to 1”. Turn the cardstock over and repeat. You now have a “T” shaped
    support for the die cut images.
* Slip the wide portion of the “T” through the slit in the base, and adhere it as directed for the basic card.
* Adhere the die cut s to the support, trimming the support to fit the die cut.
* Finish the card

Below is a very rough diagram illustrating the cutting and scoring for the “T” base support and the card base.

CUTTING MEASUREMENTS FOR BASIC CARD WITH 1 1/4” TALL BASE

* Card base - cut cardstock at 10” x 4 1/4” score at 1 1/4”, 2 1/2”, 3 3/4”, 5”, 6 1/4”, 7 1/2”,
   and 8 3/4”. Place in paper trimmer with 10” side along the top. At the 5” score line cut from
   5/8” to 3 5/8”.
* Card base panel - cut as for the basic card above, but drop in 1 1/4” below the slit.
* The mat and focal panel and back panel measurements are the same as for the basic card
   above.
* Greeting and patterned paper - cut each at 1” x 4”.

DIE CUT TROPHY CARD WITH 1 1/4” TALL BASE

* Card base - cut and score cardstock as directed for the Basic Card with 1 1/4” base
* Cut the base panel cardstock at 5 1/2” x 2 3/4”, when cutting to form the “T” with the
   2 3/4” side of the  cardstock along the top of the trimmer cut from 0 to 1 1/4”. Turn the
   paper  over and repeat. Place the 5 1/2” side along the top of the trimmer and cut from 0
   to 1”. Turn the paper over and repeat. Place the wide end of this piece through the slit in the
   card base and adhere as directed for the basic card.
