Hi Stampers!
I was sitting in my craft room just looking around at a few spaces that needed some attention. One of those spaces was a box where I keep smaller pieces of cardstock, only the box could not be seen. The cardstock spilling out totally concealed the existence of the box. So, I decided the time had come to do something about all that scrap cardstock. I selected some of the pieces and cut them into 1/4” strips. Next, I looked at my pile of strips for a while. It didn’t take long before a few card ideas came to mind. Here are the results:
CREATING CARDS WITH CARDSTOCK SCRAPS
Below each card photo I will list the supplies I chose to use to make my cards. To recreate the sample cards use any cardstock colors, sentiments, dies, etc you like. Remember the purpose of these card ideas is to help reduce cardstock scraps collections.
SUPPLIES USED FOR THIS CARD
* Charming Sentiments stamp set & Sentiments Dies
* Card base - Basic White (thick) 11” x 4 1/4” scored and folded at 5 1/2”
* Mat - Basic Black 5” x 3 3/4”
* Focal panel - Basic White cardstock 4 1/4” x 3” - along both 3” sides place a mark at the midpoint
(1 1/2”)
* Scraps of 5 colors of cardstock cut into 1/4” wide strips by at least 4” long - 1 strip for center strip and 2 each of the other colors. Trim strips as follows : Color A (center strip) cut 1 at 1/4” x 4”; Color B cut 2 strips at 1/4” x 3 3/4”, Color C cut 2 strips at 1/4”x 3 1/2”, Color D cut 2 at 1/4” x 3 1/4” and Color E cut 2 at 1/4” x 3”
COLORS I USED - Pumpkin Pie, Azure Afternoon, Parakeet Party, Crushed Curry, and Coastal Cabana
* Scrap of Basic White cardstock for greeting
* Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
* Ombré Matte Decorative Dots or other gems, sequins, etc - 5
* Paper snips or scissors
* Adhesive and dimensionals
FOR FOCAL PIECE
* On the 3” x 4 1/4” piece of Basic White cardstock line up the 4’ strip ( Color A) centered on the marks made at the top and bottom of the cardstock (3” sides). Now center each of the Color B strips horizontally on each side of the Color A strip. Center the Color C strips horizontally with the Color B strips. Continue the process with the remaining two colors.
* Use paper snips or scissors to cut around the image.
* Adhere this piece to the Basic Black mat with dimensionals.
* Use adhesive and two mini dimensionals (one on each end) to adhere the greeting.
* Adhere this panel to the Basic White card base.
* Add the decorative dots.
CRISSCROSS STRIPS SHAKER CARD
SUPPLIES USED FOR THIS CARD
* Celebrate With Tags stamp set
* Basic Gray card base - 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4”
* Basic Gray cardstock for frame, back panel, and to mat greeting
* Basic White cardstock for greeting
* Window Sheet
* Three colors of scrap cardstock - 3 strips of each color for a total of 9 strips they should measure 1/4” x about 4”- 5”
COLORS I USED - Wild Wheat, Mossy Meadow, Misty Moonlight
* Ink - Basic Gray
* Layering dies - 3 in consecutive order. I used three of the Stitched Rectangles Dies (retired)
* Loose gems, sequins, small beads, etc for shaker elements
* Adhesive, Foam Adhesive strips
FOR FOCAL PIECE
* Create a frame using Basic Gray cardstock and the largest and smallest of the three dies.
* Use Basic Gray cardstock and the middle die to cut the back panel.
* Use the middle die to cut the window sheet.
* Apply adhesive to the back side of the frame and arrange the 1/4” strips of cardstock in a diagonal crisscross pattern. Trim excess.
* Add more adhesive to the back of the frame and over the strips. I used Tear & Tape.
* Place the window sheet over the tape.
* Place the adhesive strips on the window sheet along the 4 inner edges of the frame.
* Place the shaker elements inside the area between the adhesive foam strips.
* Remove the backing from the adhesive strips, and place the backing piece of cardstock on top. Put adhesive on the backing piece and adhere to the card base.
* Adhere the greeting.
WOVEN STRIPS CARD
SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD
* Cheerful Daisies stamp set
* Card base Basic Black cardstock -11” x 4 1/4” scored and folded at 5 1/2”
* Focal panel - Basic White cardstock - 5 1/4” x 4”
* Scrap of Basic Black cardstock about 3 1/4 - 3 1/2” square for frame
* Several colors of cardstock cut in 1/4” x 4” or so; I USED Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Coastal Cabana, Azure Afternoon, and Gorgeous Grape. You will need 12-14 strips.
* Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
* Dies - Stylish Shapes Dies - Circles - Largest and next largest
* 4” x 4”ie e of printer paper or scrap DSP
* Adhesive and dimensionals
FOCAL PIECE
* Use the smallest of the two dies to cut a window centered and about 1/2” - 3/4” from the top of the Basic White focal panel.
* Use both does to cut a frame from the Basic Black cardstock.
* Use the largest die to cut a window in the center of the printer paper or the DSP.
* Place adhesive (Stampin’ Seal) along the top edge of the window - not quite halfway around the circle.
* Place 6-7 strips on the adhesive vertically across the window leaving a bit of space between the strips.
* Weave remaining strips horizontally through the vertical strips (over/ under). Secure the ends of the horizontal strips and the bottom of the vertical strips with tape.
* Place the largest circle die over the strips lined up with the cut out circle. Secure, then run through die cut machine.
* Place adhesive around the window on the backside of the focal panel then put the woven piece on the adhesive. Use tape to tack down any edges of the woven piece that need extra tacking down.
* Add frame to front of focal panel.
* Stamp greeting.
* Add focal panel to card base with dimensionals.

There you have it, some ideas for using scraps of cardstock. I am certain you can come up with even more ways to use cardstock scraps.
