‘TIS THE SEASON FOR JOY FOLD CARDS - A STAMP HAPPY HOLIDAYS POST

Hi Stampers!

We are quickly approaching the “Season of Joy!” What card fold could be more appropriate for this time of year than a Joy Fold Card? Just what is a Joy Fold Card? Although there are some variations, a Joy Fold Card is basically an A-2 size card with the front panel of the card shortened. A smaller card (mini card) is added with its opening facing left. The back of the mini card is adhered to the inside of the A-2 card base. The front of the mini card goes over the top of the front panel of the A-2 card base. Joy Fold Cards can be portrait or landscape oriented.

There are various cutting dimensions for Joy Fold Cards; for both the A-2 card base and for the mini card. The size of the mini card can be adapted to accommodate different sizes of stamped images. For me, this is one reason I enjoy making Joy Fold Cards!!! It is a card fold that is very flexible! Let’s take a look at my sample cards:

As you can see the samples show the portrait and landscape versions of the Joy Fold Card. The two cards on the left have mimi cards that are the same size, just oriented differently, meaning the cutting measurements  are different, but produce a card that measures 3” x 4”. The mini cards on the two cards on the right are 3” x 3” square, so the cutting measurements for these are the same.

As for the A-2 card bases, I find the easiest way to create them is to think of them as creating 3/4 of a card. In other words you cut off half of the front of the card. I know this might sound confusing or overwhelming, but once you make one or two you will see just how easy this card fold is to master!

Here are my cutting measurements for the A-2 portion and DSP layers of the Joy Fold Card - both portrait and landscape versions.

PORTRAIT VERSION

MY WAY (Easiest for me to remember)

Cut cardstock at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2”, score at 4 1/4” along the 8 1/2” side, then along the same side place in trimmer at 2 1/8”. Save the smaller piece of cardstock for another use. Now fold along the score line and the Joy Fold card base is complete.

OR ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS

6 3/8” x 5 1/2” - along the 6 3/8” side score and fold at 4 1/4”

Both of the measuring methods above result in a card front that measures 2 1/8” wide. If you want the front flap a bit wider for the My Way version cut off les cardstock, and for the Actual Measurements version cut your cardstock wider than 6 3/8”. The scoring remained the same

DSP - 1 piece cut at 4” x 5 1/4” and 1 piece cut at 1 7/8”  x 5 1/4”
* If you alter the front flap you will need to alter the width of the DSP for the front flap.

LANDSCAPE VERSION

MY WAY (Easiest for me to remember)

Cut cardstock at 4 1/4” x 11” and score at 5 1/2” along 11” side. Place in paper trimmer at 2 3/4” along same side and cut. Save the smaller piece of cardstock for another use. Fold the card base along the score line. The landscape Joy Fold Card base is complete.

OR ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS

8 1/4” x 4 1/4” - along the 8 1/4” side score and fold at 5 1/2”

Both methods result in a card front that measures 2 3/4” wide. To make the front flap wider for the My Way method cut off less than 2 3/4”. For the Actual Measurements method add to the 8 1/4” side of the cardstock. The scoring remains the same.

DSP - 1 piece cut at 5 1/4” x 4” and 1 piece cut at 2 1/2” x 4”
* Remember if you alter the front flap of the card you must add to the width of the DSP for the front flap.

A COTTAGE WREATH WITH A DANGLING SPIDER - A STAMP HAPPY HOLIDAYS POST

Hi Stampers!

Today I am sharing a dangling spider Halloween card made using the the COTTAGE WREATHS BUNDLE (Cottage Wreaths stamp set and the Country Wreaths Dies) from the Stampin’ Up!®️ July - December 2022 Mini Catalog. Although the card is made for Halloween, the same layout can be used to create cards for fall or any occasion. Let’s take a look.

The layout for this card is quite simple. The panel for the focal piece is basically a smaller version of the card base with the DSP mat.

MEASUREMENTS FOR THE CARD LAYOUT
* Card base 4 1/4” x 11” scored and folded at 5 1/2”
* Cardstock to mat focal panel - 3 1/4” x 4 1/2”
* DSP for layers - cut one piece at 4” x 5 1/4” (for card base) and cut another one  3” x 4 1/4” fo4 focal panel.

COTTAGE WREATHS STAMP SET

* Metallic Mesh Ribbon - 2 to 3 inches
* Clear fishing line - about 5 inches (baker’s twine, crochet thread, etc. will work too)

ASSEMBLY
* Cut the cardstock for the card base, mat and cut the DSP layers
* Stamp the wreath and the Boo! on Basic White cardstock with Basic Gray
* Stamp two spiders on Basic White cardstock using Gorgeous Grape ink
* Die cut the spiders and the wreath, die cut another wreath shape from Basic White cardstock
* Die cut the Boo! Using the smallest Stylish Shapes circle die
* Die cut the bow and the circle to mat the Boo! from Pumpkin Pie cardstock.
* Put 1-2 glue dots on the back side of the stamped spider, put one end of the fishing line on the glue dots. Put glue dots on the other die cut, line it up with the other spider
* Use a dimensional to attach the fishing line at the top left side of the wreath die cut
* Match up both die cut wreaths, use mini dimensionals to adhere the two wreaths together (cut larger ones in half if you do not have the mini ones)
* Adhere the DSP to the cardstock for the focal panel, and adhere the other piece of DSP to the card base.
* Adhere the wreath to the focal panel
* Adhere the greeting to its mat then adhere the greeting to the center of the wreath
* Use the sponge dauber and Pumpkin Pie ink to sponge a bit of color around the edges of the die cut bow
* Pinch the center Metallic Mesh ribbon, hold the pinching in place with a glue dot, use another glue dot to attach the mesh ribbon to the back side of the die cut bow, and finally attach the bow/ ribbon to the wreath.
* Attach the focal panel to the card base with dimensionals
* Add the Black Matte Dots to the card

That’s all for today. Thanks for stopping by for this edition of Stamp Happy Holidays. Until next time…
