Today we are going to create a Joy Fold Card. This is one of my go to fun folds . I can usually funds scraps of patterned paper to use for the panels. The card is easy to create, and is a nice break from the usual A2 card. The card base measures and is scored a bit differently from a standard A2 base, and there is a smaller card that provides the focal point for the card front. If you happen to have larger scraps of cardstock it might be possible to use them for the small card. Let’s take a look at today’s sample cards:

TODAY’S CARDS
The Joy Fold Card is one I keep in my folder of “Classic Card Folds.” Each of these card folds is tried and true; like Z Folds and Gate Folds! Like the Z Folds and Gate Folds, the Joy Fold card can be created in a portrait orientation, the dimensions of the small card can be altered to your liking. Turn the card 180 degrees and the small card will open from the right as opposed to the left. The Joy Fold Card is a classic, can help use up scraps, can be created in different orientations, and can be altered to fit your needs! What more could you ask for? Why not give this card fold a try?
Thank you so much for stopping by today. Until next time. . .
Time is flying by! It’s mid-November already!!! If your Holiday cards are finished, congratulations! That is wonderful! If you are getting close to finishing, good job! You will finish soon! If you have yet to begin . . . that is fine. No need to panic. There is still time to create lovely cards to send Holiday greetings to family and friends! The two fun folds I am sharing today are easy to create, accommodate any style, and go together quickly. One card is a Joy Fold Card. This is (in my mind) a classic fun fold. The second card is what I call a Cut and Flip, Flap Card. The cards are different, but similar, so let’s take a look:

THERE IS STILL TIME TO CREATE THESE
FUN FOLD CARDS FOR CHRISTMAS!
THE JOY FOLD CARD
The Joy Fold Card is basically a card in a card. There are different versions of this card in that measurements vary a bit. That is one reason this card is a classic card fold, it can be customized to fit your focal image or greeting.
CUTE PENGUIN JOY FOLD CARD
INSIDE THE CARD
HOW TO MAKE A JOY FOLD CARD
* Main card base - cardstock cut at 8 1/4” x 4 1/4” scored along the 8 1/4” side at 2 3/4”. Fold as usual. The shorter side is the front of the card. The fold should be at the left.
* Smaller card - 🔘 cut cardstock at 6” x 3” along 6” side score and fold at 3”. This card will open from the right. The fold will be to the right. Put adhesive on the back side of the small card. Remember, the card opens from the right, or opposite of a normal side fold card. Adhere it centered on the inside of the main card base.
🔘 The size of the small card can be modified to fit the focal image and / or greeting. For my sample card I cut the small card at 6” x 3 3/4”, scored at 3” along the 6” side.
SUPPLIES I USED
* Card bases - Pool Party cardstock (Stampin’ Up!®️)
* Other cardstock - Pool Party scrap cut with die for greeting, Basic White cut at 3 1/2” x 2 3/4” for inside the small card, white cardstock scrap to stamp focal image.
* Patterned paper - Pattern #1 - cut one piece at 5 1/4” x 4” and one piece at 4” x 2 1/2”; Pattern #2 - three pieces, cut 1 at 4” x 2 1/2” and two at 3 1/2” 2 3/4” from Snow Pine Lodge (Simple Stories)
* Die - Nested Essentials Dies (Stampin’ Up!
THE CUT AND FLIP, FLAP CARD
This card fold uses the entire card base, just in a different way than usual. Basically, the card front is “cut” in half, and the piece is “flipped,” and becomes a “flap” on which to place a focal point and / or greeting.
POLAR BEAR CUT, FLIP, FLAP CARD
INSIDE THE CARD
HOW TO MAKE A CUT AND FLIP, FLAP CARD
* Card base - cut cardstock at 11” x 4 1/4” and score at 5 1/2”
* Place cardstock in trimmer with 11” side along the top. Cut at 2 3/4” - this creates the flap that will be placed horizontally on the card front
* Light colored or white cardstock for inside panel cut at 4” x 2 3/4”
* Patterned paper - cut one piece at 5 1/4” x 4”, cut 3 at 4” x 2 1/2”
* The flap - place patterned paper, die cut focal image (or stamped image) and greeting on the flap
* Place patterned paper on the card front and on the inside panels of the card
* Place adhesive on the back of the left side of the flap, center it and press to adhere to card
* Adhere the inside panel to the card by opening the card with front of card facing down. Lie the inside panel face down on the card front, line it up with the flap. Put adhesive on the back of the panel, make sure it is still lined up with the flap. Close the back of the card over the panel and press to make sure the panel adheres to the card. The inside panel should be perfectly lined up with the front flap.
SUPPLIES I USED
* Card base - Lost Lagoon cardstock (Stampin’ Up!)
* Inside panel - Pool Party cardstock (Stampin’ Up!)
* Patterned Paper - Flap - Snow Pine Lodge (Simple Stories); Stampin’ Up! (retired)
* Other cardstock - Basic White (Stampin’ Up!) for stamping and die cutting
* Stamps - Polar Bears and coordinating die (Crafter’s Companion); Family Christmas Sentiments (Waffle Flower)
* Embellishments - Loose White Snowflakes (Stampin’ Up!)

VIDEO CARDS
COW-OLERS JOY FOLD
SUPPLIES I USED
* Card base - Real Red cardstock (Stampin’ Up!)
* Small card - Real Red cardstock cut at 7” x 3 3/4” score on 7” side at 3 1/2” (sized to fit image)
* Inside greeting - Basic White cardstock (Stampin’ Up!) -3 1/2” x 3 1/4”
* Greeting - Basic White, Real Red mat - cut to fit greeting
In the video you will se I had forgotten to cut the patterned paper for the front flap of this card. I have added that paper, and I changed the greeting by removing the banner. I stamped the greeting directly on the patterned paper, and added a few snowflakes. I like this version a lot better.
SUPPLIES I USED
* Card base - Night of Navy (Stampin’ Up!)
* Inside greeting - a basic White and Night of Navy (mat)
* Inks - Smokey Slate, Night of Navy; Stampin’ Blends - Smoky Slate and Color Lifter

We are quickly approaching the “Season of Joy!” What card fold could be more appropriate for this time of year than a Joy Fold Card? Just what is a Joy Fold Card? Although there are some variations, a Joy Fold Card is basically an A-2 size card with the front panel of the card shortened. A smaller card (mini card) is added with its opening facing left. The back of the mini card is adhered to the inside of the A-2 card base. The front of the mini card goes over the top of the front panel of the A-2 card base. Joy Fold Cards can be portrait or landscape oriented.
There are various cutting dimensions for Joy Fold Cards; for both the A-2 card base and for the mini card. The size of the mini card can be adapted to accommodate different sizes of stamped images. For me, this is one reason I enjoy making Joy Fold Cards!!! It is a card fold that is very flexible! Let’s take a look at my sample cards:
As you can see the samples show the portrait and landscape versions of the Joy Fold Card. The two cards on the left have mimi cards that are the same size, just oriented differently, meaning the cutting measurements are different, but produce a card that measures 3” x 4”. The mini cards on the two cards on the right are 3” x 3” square, so the cutting measurements for these are the same.
As for the A-2 card bases, I find the easiest way to create them is to think of them as creating 3/4 of a card. In other words you cut off half of the front of the card. I know this might sound confusing or overwhelming, but once you make one or two you will see just how easy this card fold is to master!
Here are my cutting measurements for the A-2 portion and DSP layers of the Joy Fold Card - both portrait and landscape versions.
PORTRAIT VERSION
MY WAY (Easiest for me to remember)
Cut cardstock at 5 1/2 x 8 1/2”, score at 4 1/4” along the 8 1/2” side, then along the same side place in trimmer at 2 1/8”. Save the smaller piece of cardstock for another use. Now fold along the score line and the Joy Fold card base is complete.
OR ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS
6 3/8” x 5 1/2” - along the 6 3/8” side score and fold at 4 1/4”
Both of the measuring methods above result in a card front that measures 2 1/8” wide. If you want the front flap a bit wider for the My Way version cut off les cardstock, and for the Actual Measurements version cut your cardstock wider than 6 3/8”. The scoring remained the same
DSP - 1 piece cut at 4” x 5 1/4” and 1 piece cut at 1 7/8” x 5 1/4”
* If you alter the front flap you will need to alter the width of the DSP for the front flap.
LANDSCAPE VERSION
MY WAY (Easiest for me to remember)
Cut cardstock at 4 1/4” x 11” and score at 5 1/2” along 11” side. Place in paper trimmer at 2 3/4” along same side and cut. Save the smaller piece of cardstock for another use. Fold the card base along the score line. The landscape Joy Fold Card base is complete.
OR ACTUAL MEASUREMENTS
8 1/4” x 4 1/4” - along the 8 1/4” side score and fold at 5 1/2”
Both methods result in a card front that measures 2 3/4” wide. To make the front flap wider for the My Way method cut off less than 2 3/4”. For the Actual Measurements method add to the 8 1/4” side of the cardstock. The scoring remains the same.
DSP - 1 piece cut at 5 1/4” x 4” and 1 piece cut at 2 1/2” x 4”
* Remember if you alter the front flap of the card you must add to the width of the DSP for the front flap.

Aren’t the BADGER BESTIES images cute? My card was created for my soon to be 1 year old great-nephew, but I think adults would enjoy receiving a cute badger card too! I hope you give the Joy Fold Card a try, whether with the BADGER BESTIES stamp set or any other stamp set.
That’s all for today! Thank you for stopping by. Until next time…
Hello stampers! Today I have two cards to share that are variations of the same fun fold. Today’s cards are examples of the Joy Fold Card. This is one of my favorite fun folds, as it is quick and easy; can be simple or decked out with all kinds of embellishments, and it is truly fun to make!
Here are the cards:
To make these cards I used three stamp set. Mixing stamp set images is a way to get more out of your stamp collection! All the stamp sets I used are found in the current annual catalog. Here are the sets I used:
Here are the measurements for the landscape version of my Joy Fold Card.
The Pretty Peacock card base is 8” x 4 1/4”, scored at 5 1/2”.
The smaller card is 8” x 3”, scored at 4”.
There are two pieces of Whisper White that measure 3 3/4” x 2 3/4”. One is for the outside focal image and one for the inside of the card.
There are two pieces of DSP. Mine are from the Plaid Tidings DSP found in the current mini catalog.
The larger piece is 5 1/4” x 4”, the smaller one is 4” x 2 1/4”.
For this card my greeting and evergreen boughs were stamped with Shaded Spruce ink.
I added a bit of embellishment with a few of the Wonderful Gems found in the current mini catalog.
The Thank You is from the Ornate Thanks Stamp set. The stamp set is photopolymer. The Thank You is one stamp, but I cut the words apart so I could stamp the “you” under the thanks.” If I want the “thank you” to be on one line I just place the two pieces back together on the acrylic block, and stamp.
The evergreen boughs are from the Rustic Retreat stamp set. I also stamped the evergreen boughs in the corners of the Whisper White Cardstock for the inside of the card.
Here are the measurements for the portrait version of the card:
The Pretty Peacock cardbase is 5 1/2” x 6 3/8”, scored along the 6 3/8” side at 4 1/4”.
The smaller card is 6” x 4”, scored along the 6” side at 3”.
The Plaid Tidings DSP pieces are cut at 5 1/4” x 4” and 2” x 4”.
The two Whisper White pieces are cut at 3 3/4” x 2 3/4”.
The greeting from Happiest of Birthdays is stamped with Pretty Peacock ink. The evergreen boughs are also stamped with Pretty Peacock full strength, and stamped off.
I added three gilded gems for a bit of shimmer and shine.
I used another sentiment from the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set for the inside of the card.
Why not try the Joy Fold Card in both portrait and landscape versions. Another great thing about this fun fold is you can position the smaller card so it opens from either the left or the right! The fold is so versatile, no wonder it is called a Joy Fold Card! I hope these cards provide you with greatinkspirations!
Until next time...
