FAUX TORN PAPER - MASKING TECHNIQUE; AN EASY WAY TO STEP UP YOUR CARDS!

 Hi Stampers!

Today I have a fun and easy technique to share with you! It is called Faux Torn Paper. It is a masking technique; it is an easy way to step up your cards for a bit of wow! Today’s card is actually a CASE from the upcoming STAMPIN’UP! 2021-22 ANNUAL CATALOG. The card is found on page 26 of the upcoming annual catalog, and features the ENJOY THE MOMENT stamp set.  (This set will carry over from the current mini catalog to the new annual catalog.) My version of the card uses different ink colors, different sentiment, no embossing, and no twine. 

Let’s take  a look at the card.

INSIDE THE CARD

The sentiment inside the card is from the HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS stamp set found in the current annual catalog. This stamp set is also carrying over to the new annual catalog.

To make this card you will need:

* ENJOY THE MOMENT stamp set & HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS stamp set & acrylic blocks.

* Misty Moonlight card base 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4”.

* 2020-2022 In Color 6x6 DSP - Misty Moonlight - design of your choice.

* Basic White cardstock - 5 1/2” x 3 1/4”, a scrap to stamp and cut out the sentiment and a stamped image, and a piece that is 5” x 3 3/4” for the inside of the card.

* Inks: Classic Stampin’ Pads - Misty Moonlight, Crumb Cake, and Just Jade.

* Banner die from Tasteful Labels Dies, blending brushes, scissors, dimensionals, adhesive, grid paper (or printer paper) washi tape or painter’s tape.

OTHER CARDS MADE USING THE FAUX TORN PAPER MASKING TECHNIQUE

For this card I used a Bermuda Bay card base. The mat for the focal piece is Just Jade cut at 3 1/2” x 4 3/4”; the focal panel is Basic White cut at 3 1/4” x 4 1/2”. The greeting is from the HAPPY THOUGHTS stamp set and is stamped with Bermuda Bay ink. The butterflies are from the BUTTERFLY BRILLIANCE stamp set, were colored with Just Jade and Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blends, and die cut using the BRILLIANT WINGS dies. For the Faux Torn Paper Technique Just Jade and Bermuda Bay inks were applied with blending brushes.

For this card I used a Mint Macaron card base. The mat for the focal panel is Pool Party and cut at 5 1/4” x 4”. The Basic White focal panel is cut at 3 3/4” x 5”. The images are from the WHALE DONE stamp set, and stamped using Mint Macaron, Cinnamon Cider, and Highland Heather inks. The Faux Torn Paper Technique was achieved using Pool Party and Balmy Blue inks on blending brushes. The greeting is from the BUTTERFLY GALA stamp set.

COMING 4 MAY 2021- THE STAMPIN’ UP!®️ 2021-2022 ANNUAL CATALOG

USE EMBOSSING FOLDERS TO CREATE UNIQUE BACKGROUND PANEL FOR YOUR CARDS

 Hi, Stampers!

I love finding new and different ways to use my tools. Today’s technique uses an embossing folder a bit differently than usual. This technique creates a unique looking background with a bit of a distressed look. I am not certain what this technique is called, but I will call it the Embossing Folder Crayon Watercolor Background Technique! That name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but it does describe the technique! The background on this card was created using this technique.

To create the background you will need:

* An Embossing Folder - I used the BRICK & MORTAR 3-D (annual catalog).

* A white crayon - I peeled off the paper label; this allowed me to use the side of the crayon as opposed to the tip. It takes less time to cover the paper with the crayon, and covers the paper better.

* A piece of Basic White cardstock. I used a piece cut at 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” then cut it down to the size I wanted for the card.

* Classic Stampin’ Pad (s)

* Acrylic Block 

* Silicone Craft Sheet

* Water Painter (broad brush)

* Stamps  

* Heat Tool

To create the background:

* Open the embossing folder, and place the Basic White cardstock on one side. For this card I used the side with the Stampin’ Up!®️ logo, but I have had similar results using the opposite side as well.

* Rub the crayon over the entire surface of the cardstock. 

* Place the cardstock on the silicone craft sheet.

* Open the ink pad and tap the acrylic block on the surface of the pad. The ink should almost cover the surface of the block.

* Use the Water Painter to add a bit of water to the ink, then pick up some ink and brush it on the paper. Continue until the paper is covered with the ink. As Basic White cardstock is being used instead of watercolor paper, take care to use no more “watercolor” then needed to add color. The wax from the crayon, will help keep the cardstock from pilling. 

* Use a heat tool to dry the paper. Once the paper is dry you can add more color if needed. Then dry the paper once again

Once the paper was dry I used the Stitched Rectangle Dies to cut out a card layer. This helped to flatten the piece as well as give it the nice stitched edging. Next I used images from the ENJOY THE MOMENT stamp set (mini catalog). The images were stamped with Early Espresso ink.

I mounted the focal piece on a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock, and put that on an Early Espresso card base. I added the greeting, and called it good!

Here is another card I made using the same technique. For the background piece I used the ORNATE FLORAL embossing folder (annual catalog), and Bumblebee and Pumpkin Pie inks for water coloring. The focal image is from DAISY LANE, and the greeting is from ORNATE THANKS (both are on the annual catalog).

Here is one more background. For this one I used the SEABED embossing folder (annual catalog *retiring item). I used Seaside Spray to watercolor. The greeting is from HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS (annual catalog) and stamped with Highland Heather ink.

HOW TO MAKE A FUN WIPER CARD USING THE CAMPOLOGY & HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS STAMP SETS

 Hi Stampers, 

Today I am using two stamp sets, Campology and Happiest of Birthdays. Both sets are featured in the Stampin’ Up!®️ 2020-2021 Annual catalog. Today’s card is called a Wiper Card. The movement of the pop up mechanism resembles that of a car’s windshield wiper. Let’s get started with a look at the stamp sets.

CAMPOLOGY

When I saw this stamp set, I knew it would become a part of my collection! What great images! “Happy Trails” is my favorite sentiment in the set. For me Campology is my go to set for creating fun cards to send the happy campers in my life. 

HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS

The large greetings included in this birthday stamp set really take the cake! The large greetings can function as the focal point for easy, yet awesome cards!

Now that we’ve seen today’s featured stamp sets, let’s take a look at today’s Wiper Card.

SUPPLIES 

Along with the stamps sets, here are other supplies needed to create this card:

* For the card base - Two pieces of Real Red cardstock 8 1/2”  x 4 1/4” and one piece of Real Red that is 3” x 1 3/8”

* Two pieces of Basic Black cardstock cut at 5 1/4” x 4” for mats.

* Two pieces of Basic White cardstock for stamping the main images.

* Scraps of Basic White and Real Read 

* Memento Tuxedo Black Ink

* Stampin’ Blends Markers - Real Read (dark and light)

* Paper Snips 

* Stitched Rectangles Dies - this one measures 2 7/8” x 1 1/2”.

* Stampin’ Seal+

* Tear & Tape

* Dimensionals

ASSEMBLING THE CARD

* Score the two pieces of 8 1/2” x 4 1/4” cardstock at 1 1/2” and 3” along the 8 1/2” side. Lightly score the 3” x 1 3/8” piece of cardstock at 1 1/2” using the score blade on your trimmer. Next rotate the cardstock so one end of the score line and one corner of the cardstock align in the cutting/ scoring track, and score. There should be a diagonal score line running along one half of the cardstock piece.

* On one piece of Basic White cardstock randomly stamp the lantern image using the Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

* On the other piece of Basic White cardstock stamp the “ Wishing You the Happiest of Birthdays” greeting toward the left hand side of the paper. Then stamp the lantern image to the right and toward the top of the greeting. I angled the lantern a bit.

* Add color to the lanterns using the Real Red Stampin’ Blends.

* Mat each of these focal pieces to a Basic Black mat using the Stampin’ Seal or adhesive of your choice.

* On the scrap piece of Basic White cardstock stamp the “It’s your day” sentiment and the  “Happy B-Day” sentiment. 

* Use the paper snips to fussy cut the “Happy B-Day” greeting and adhere it to the top of the 3” x 1 3/8” piece of Real Red cardstock. (The top is the end that is not scored.)

* Use the Stitched Rectangles die to cut out the remaining sentiment. Mount this on a piece of Real Red cardstock that is 2 7/8” x 1 1/2”.

* With the “Happy B-Day” facing up, place Tear & Tape on the bottom left side of the piece - below the  diagonal score line. This is the “Wiper.” It will be adhered to the back side of the card front.

*Remove the backing from the Tear & Tape on the “wiper.” Place the card front face down. Align the wiper between the two score lines on the card front. Use the horizontal score line on the wiper (the one lightly scored at 1 1/2”) and line it up with the top edge of the card. Adhere into place.

* Put adhesive on the back side of left hand section of the card front. Adhere the right hand side of the card back to this section. Repeat the process to attach the  remaining sides of the card.

* This is how the card should look when looking down over it.

* Adhere the “It's Your Day” sentiment to the front of the card using dimensionals. The card is complete!

* To operate the wiper device: pull outwards on both sides of the card to make the wiper come up. Push inward on both sides of the card to make the wiper go down.

Here are two other Wiper Cards I made using the CAMPOLOGY stamp set.

I played up the binocular theme on this card by adding the two die cut circle frames around the Happy Birthday.

The theme for this card - Pop Up Tent, of course! 

I had a lot of fun making these cards, and I can’ t wait to send them to the camping enthusiasts in my life,

QUICK AND EASY FUN FOLD FOR ANY OCCASION

 Hello stampers! Today I have two cards to share that are variations of the same fun fold. Today’s cards are examples of the Joy Fold Card. This is one of my favorite fun folds, as it is quick and easy; can be simple or decked out with all kinds of embellishments, and it is truly fun to make!

Here are the cards:

To make these cards I used three stamp set. Mixing stamp set images is a way to get more out of your stamp  collection! All the stamp sets I used are found in the current annual catalog. Here are the sets I used:

Here are the measurements for the landscape version of my Joy Fold Card.

The Pretty Peacock card base is 8” x 4 1/4”, scored at 5 1/2”.

The smaller card is 8” x 3”, scored at 4”. 

There are two pieces of Whisper White that measure 3 3/4” x 2 3/4”. One is for the outside focal image and one for the inside of the card.

There are two pieces of DSP. Mine are from the Plaid Tidings DSP found in the current mini catalog.

The larger piece is 5 1/4” x 4”, the smaller one is 4” x 2 1/4”.

For this card my greeting and evergreen boughs were stamped with Shaded Spruce ink.

I added a bit of embellishment with a few of the Wonderful Gems found in the current mini catalog.

The Thank You is from the Ornate Thanks Stamp set. The stamp set is photopolymer. The Thank You is one stamp, but I cut the words apart so I could stamp the “you” under the thanks.” If I want the “thank you” to be on one line I just place the two pieces back together on the acrylic block, and stamp.

The evergreen boughs are from the Rustic Retreat stamp set. I also stamped the evergreen boughs in the corners of the Whisper White Cardstock for the inside of the card. 

Here are the measurements for the portrait version of the card:

The Pretty Peacock cardbase is 5 1/2” x 6 3/8”, scored along the 6 3/8” side at 4 1/4”.

The smaller card is 6” x 4”, scored along the 6” side at 3”.

The Plaid Tidings DSP pieces are cut at  5 1/4” x 4” and 2” x 4”.

The two Whisper White pieces are cut at 3 3/4” x 2 3/4”.

The greeting from Happiest of Birthdays is stamped with Pretty Peacock ink. The evergreen boughs are also stamped with Pretty Peacock full strength, and stamped off. 

I added three gilded gems for a bit of shimmer and shine.

I used another sentiment from the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set for the inside of the card.

Why not try the Joy Fold Card in both portrait and landscape versions. Another great thing about this fun fold is you can position the smaller card so it opens from either the left or the right! The fold is so versatile, no wonder it is called a Joy Fold Card! I hope these cards provide you with greatinkspirations!
