I know it is only June, but today’s cards feature paper from the TIDINGS OF CHRISTMAS DESIGNER SERIES PAPER. Several designs in this paper collection are suitable for all season card making. I paired the paper with the ENJOY THE MOMENT stamp set, because the image from the stamp set is very similar to images found in the DSP. Today’s cards are easy to make and go together quickly. Today I have four cards to share with you. Each one is quite different from the others, but they all have one thing in common! They are all easel cards! Easel cards are easy to make, and they make the recipients say, “Wow!” That is a win - win, for sure. Let’s take a look at today’s cards. At the end of this post is a video demonstrating how to assemble easel cards.
FOUR EASY TO MAKE EASEL CARDS
EASEL CARDS STANDING
Easel cards orientation can be either landscape or portrait. Let’s look at landscape orientation first.
BASE FOR THE LANDSCAPE EASEL CARD:
* Card Base- Basic White or light colored cardstock cut at 5 1/2” x 8 1/2” scored along the 8 1/2” side at 2 1/8” and at 4 1/4”. Fold along score lines. Both folds are mountain fold. Burnish with a bone folder.
* Card Front - cardstock, color of your choice cut at 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”
* Stopper - (the piece that allows the card to stay in place while open and standing ) Cardstock or DSP cut at 5 1/2” x 2”, scored at 1” along the 2” side. Fold this I half along the score line. Adhere the two sides of the paper together.
FREE AS A BIRD EASEL CARD
To make this card start with a Basic White landscape orientation card base, a Gorgeous Grape card front, and a Gorgeous Grape stopper.
OTHER SUPPLIES:
* Free As A Bird stamp set
* Hand-Penned DSP - Highland Heather - cut at 5 1/4” x 4”
* Gorgeous Grape cardstock cut at 4 3/8” x 2 5/8” and Shimmery White cardstock cut at 4 1/4” x 2 1/2”
* Square Vellum Doily
* Gorgeous Grape and Highland Heather inks
* Water Painter (wide brush) and clear block
* Multipurpose Glue, Tape, Demminsionals
TO ASSEMBLE:
*Pick up Highland Heather ink with the clear block. Use the water painter to create a watercolor wash on the Shimmery White Cardstock. Dry this with a heat tool, or allow to air dry. Stamp images on the water color panel
* Adhere the DSP to the Gorgeous Grape cardstock front. To adhere the Gorgeous Grape panel to the easel card base add the liquid adhesive to the card base from the 2 1/8” score line downward. Now adhere the card front.
* Place the doily in the center of the Gorgeous Grape mat so it looks like a diamond. Use a piece of tape to keep it in place. Adhere the bird image over the top.
* Adhere the stopper on the inside of the card about 3/4”-1” from the bottom.
* Stamp other greetings and images.
WAY TO GOAT
This card is made just like the previous card, except I used the Way To Goat stamp set. I made the card with Mint Macaron DSP from Handed - Pennned. The Basic White cardstock strip is 3/4” wide x 5 1/2” long. The goat image on the left was created using the Reverse Stamping Technique. (See 15 Jan 2021 post.) The goats were colored with Stampin’ Blends. The “Smile” sentiment is from the Daisy Lane stamp set.
Now let’s look at the cards in portrait orientation:
BASE FOR THE PORTRAIT ORIENTATION EASEL CARD
* Card Base - Basic White (or other light colored cardstock) cut at 4 1/4” x 11” scored at 2 3/4” and 5 1/2” along the 11” side.
* Card Front - cardstock - color of your choice cut at 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”
* Stopper - DSP or cardstock cut at 4 1/4” x 2” scored at 1” along the 2” side.
ENJOY THE MOMENT EASEL CARD
OTHER SUPPLIES:
* Enjoy the Moment stamp set
* Portrait Oriented card base - Basic White
* Card Front - Basic White 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”
* DSP - 2021-23 6” x 6” DSP in Soft Succulent
* For the focal point - Soft Succulent cardstock 4 1/2” x 2”. Basic White cardstock 4 1/4” x 1 3/4”. Scrap of Basic White for image.
* Ink - Crumb Cake and Soft Succulent
* Linen Thread
* Blending Brush or Sponge Dauber
ASSEMBLY:
*Using a blending brush (or sponge dauber) add a bit of Soft Succulent ink down the center of the piece of Basic White for the focal point. Now ink up the Happy Birthday stamp from the stamp set with Soft Succulent ink. Stamp the greeting full strength, then stamp again under the previous image, then one more time. Repeat this process all the way down the piece of cardstock.
* On the scrap piece of Basic White, stamp the poppy pod image. Fussy cut the image, and put dimensionals on the back. Adhere the Happy Birthday panel to the Soft Succulent mat. Now attach the poppy pod to the focal panel.
* Wrap the Linen Thread around the focal panel several times about 2/3 of the way down, tie a bow.
* Add dimensionals to the back of the focal piece and adhere it to the card front toward the right side of the card.
* Open the card and stamp the sentiment (it’s your day enjoy it - from the Happiest of Birthdays stamp set) with Soft Succlent ink at the bottom center of the card. Adhere the stopper right above the sentiment.
This card is similar to the previous card. The focal piece is centered as opposed to being adhered to the right side of the card front. The stamp set is Hey Birthday Chick. The card front is Seaside Spray, as is the focal point mat. The DSP is from the Sand & Sea DSP (mini catalog). The greeting is stamped with Seaside Spray ink. The chicken is stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends, and die cut with the coordinating dies. I stamped the chicken image two more times and die cut those. I trimmed away the chicken to get the extra two balloons. It is attached to the mat with dimensionals. The embellishments are the Basic Rhinestone Jewels colored with Stampin’ Blends (Poppy Parade, Balmy Blue, and Daffodil Delight - all dark).
Here is another look at all four cards.
And... here is a video demonstrating how to assemble the portrait and landscape versions of the easel card.

Today I have a fun and easy technique to share with you! It is called Faux Torn Paper. It is a masking technique; it is an easy way to step up your cards for a bit of wow! Today’s card is actually a CASE from the upcoming STAMPIN’UP! 2021-22 ANNUAL CATALOG. The card is found on page 26 of the upcoming annual catalog, and features the ENJOY THE MOMENT stamp set. (This set will carry over from the current mini catalog to the new annual catalog.) My version of the card uses different ink colors, different sentiment, no embossing, and no twine.
Let’s take a look at the card.
INSIDE THE CARD
The sentiment inside the card is from the HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS stamp set found in the current annual catalog. This stamp set is also carrying over to the new annual catalog.

OTHER CARDS MADE USING THE FAUX TORN PAPER MASKING TECHNIQUE
For this card I used a Bermuda Bay card base. The mat for the focal piece is Just Jade cut at 3 1/2” x 4 3/4”; the focal panel is Basic White cut at 3 1/4” x 4 1/2”. The greeting is from the HAPPY THOUGHTS stamp set and is stamped with Bermuda Bay ink. The butterflies are from the BUTTERFLY BRILLIANCE stamp set, were colored with Just Jade and Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blends, and die cut using the BRILLIANT WINGS dies. For the Faux Torn Paper Technique Just Jade and Bermuda Bay inks were applied with blending brushes.

COMING 4 MAY 2021- THE STAMPIN’ UP!®️ 2021-2022 ANNUAL CATALOG
I love finding new and different ways to use my tools. Today’s technique uses an embossing folder a bit differently than usual. This technique creates a unique looking background with a bit of a distressed look. I am not certain what this technique is called, but I will call it the Embossing Folder Crayon Watercolor Background Technique! That name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but it does describe the technique! The background on this card was created using this technique.
To create the background you will need:
* An Embossing Folder - I used the BRICK & MORTAR 3-D (annual catalog).
* A white crayon - I peeled off the paper label; this allowed me to use the side of the crayon as opposed to the tip. It takes less time to cover the paper with the crayon, and covers the paper better.
* A piece of Basic White cardstock. I used a piece cut at 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” then cut it down to the size I wanted for the card.
* Classic Stampin’ Pad (s)
* Acrylic Block
* Silicone Craft Sheet
* Water Painter (broad brush)
* Stamps
* Heat Tool
To create the background:
* Open the embossing folder, and place the Basic White cardstock on one side. For this card I used the side with the Stampin’ Up!®️ logo, but I have had similar results using the opposite side as well.
* Rub the crayon over the entire surface of the cardstock.
* Place the cardstock on the silicone craft sheet.
* Open the ink pad and tap the acrylic block on the surface of the pad. The ink should almost cover the surface of the block.
* Use the Water Painter to add a bit of water to the ink, then pick up some ink and brush it on the paper. Continue until the paper is covered with the ink. As Basic White cardstock is being used instead of watercolor paper, take care to use no more “watercolor” then needed to add color. The wax from the crayon, will help keep the cardstock from pilling.
* Use a heat tool to dry the paper. Once the paper is dry you can add more color if needed. Then dry the paper once again
Once the paper was dry I used the Stitched Rectangle Dies to cut out a card layer. This helped to flatten the piece as well as give it the nice stitched edging. Next I used images from the ENJOY THE MOMENT stamp set (mini catalog). The images were stamped with Early Espresso ink.
I mounted the focal piece on a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock, and put that on an Early Espresso card base. I added the greeting, and called it good!
Here is another card I made using the same technique. For the background piece I used the ORNATE FLORAL embossing folder (annual catalog), and Bumblebee and Pumpkin Pie inks for water coloring. The focal image is from DAISY LANE, and the greeting is from ORNATE THANKS (both are on the annual catalog).
Here is one more background. For this one I used the SEABED embossing folder (annual catalog *retiring item). I used Seaside Spray to watercolor. The greeting is from HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS (annual catalog) and stamped with Highland Heather ink.
Here is a look at all three cards.
Why not grab an embossing folder and give this technique a try? That is it for today. Until next time...
How many of you remember sitting down on Sunday evenings and watching The Wonderful World of Disney? The theme music would begin, Tinker Bell appeared on the screen, and with a magic wand touched the sky. Bursts of red, yellow, and blue appeared. Next the lyrics of the theme song began with the phrase, “The world is a carousel of color....”
Stampin’ Up! inks and cardstocks are just that - a carousel of color! I love all the Stampin’ Up! colors (and yes, I have them all), but many times I feel overwhelmed by all that color! I ignore most of the colors, and use a small assortment over and over. I also have a tendency to create cards that veer toward monochromatic color schemes. There is nothing wrong with having “go to” colors, but why have ink pads and cardstock and not put them to use? So, I thought we could explore ways to come up with color combinations that remedy the overwhelmed feeling and encourage a more equitable use of all those ink pads and stacks of cardstock.
A good place to start might be to remember kindergarten or elementary school when we learned there are three primary colors red, yellow and blue. There we go - an instant color combination! Let’s see what I can come up with using these three colors!
For this color combination I chose Real Red, Daffodil Delight, and Pacific Point.
I feel this color combination would be great for nautical / sailing themed cards, circus / carnival themed cards, and all kinds of kids’ cards. I decided to create a kid’s birthday card.
Here is the card I created using this color combination.
I used the ZANY ZEBRAS stamp set (annual catalog).
The next step is to expand the definition of the color combination using different hues of the primary colors. I chose Merry Merlot, Bumblebee, and Night of Navy.
These colors are deep, rich, and comforting. To me this combination has a vintage feel, and it reminds me of autumn. For masculine cards I tend to use greens and browns, but I think these colors would be great for masculine cards.
Here is the card I made with this color combination.
I used the ENJOY THE MOMENT stamp set (mini catalog).
For the next color combination I decided to select other colors of red and yellow, but for the blue I selected a color that is blue with a step toward green. I chose Poppy Parade, Mango Medley, and Bermuda Bay.
These colors are bright and cheery. I think they could work well on cards for many occasions - birthdays, thank you, or just because!
Here is the card I created.
I used the LOVELY YOU stamp set (annual catalog).
By focusing on primary colors (red, yellow, and blue), I found three color combinations I can use. I didn’t feel overwhelmed and I used some colors I haven’t used in a while (if ever in the case of Merry Merlot). What color combinations can you come up with to turn your cards into a carousel of color?
Today I am sharing a quick and easy way to create great background panels for cards! All you need is cardstock, ink, decorative masks (stencils), blending brushes (you can use sponges or sponge dauber), and some washi tape or painter’s tape.
Here is one of the cards I made using the blending brushes and the polka dot decorative mask. I also used the Kangaroo & Company stamp set and the Kangaroo dies. These items are found in the Stampin’ Up!®️ January - June 2021 Mini Catalog.
Kangaroo & Company Stamp Set and Kangaroo Dies
Below are the Basic Pattern Decorative Masks. They can be found on page 146 in the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.The set of masks includes 4 designs.
The blending brushes are a new product found in the new mini catalog on page 70. They come in a set of three brushes.
Here is a card made with the leaf print mask. The greeting comes from a stamp set found in the beginner brochure and the online store. The stamp set is called Four Season Floral.
This card was made with the damask pattern from the mask collection. I used three colors of ink (Balmy Blue, Highland Heather, and Rococo Rose) with the blending brushes, and worked my way up the cardstock. The flower is from the Hydrangea Haven stamp set. (mini catalog)
Lastly, here is the card I made using the winter tree mask. The sentiment is from the Enjoy the Moment stamp set. (mini catalog) I also use the Stampin’ Chalk Marker and Wink of Stella to create snow on the trees. (See annual catalog pages 146 - 147.)
Here is a video demonstrating the technique for making these background panels. I hope you will give this technique a try!
That’s all for today. Thank you for stopping by. Until next time...
