A STAMPING TECHNIQUE YOU CAN CLING TO!

Hi Stampers!

I have been stamping and creating cards for, well… for quite a while now! A way back when I  started there were nowhere near the tools and products available today. We still managed to come up with plenty of techniques and unique ways to step up our card making. Over the years techniques have come and gone, only to return, sometimes with a bit of a twist. I do enjoy learning new and different ways of creating, but I also enjoy taking a new look at old techniques. That is what we’re doing today. We’re going to see what we can create using a technique we can “cling” to, so to speak! You guessed it! We’re going to use cling wrap as our stamp and create designs on cardstock, and then we’ll look at different ways to use those that cardstock. Let’s take a look at the sample cards:

A STAMPING TECHNIQUE YOU CAN CLING TO!

GATHER SUPPLIES

WHAT YOU NEED
* Cling Wrap
* Acrylic Block(s) - 1per ink color
* Dye Ink - 1-3 colors, more if you like
* Spritz Bottle for water
* White Cardstock
* Optional - Binder Clip, Rubber Band (you can use one of these as a handle and to help hold the cling wrap together)

HOW TO
* Tap the open ink pad on acrylic block, or tap block on ink pad. No need to cover the entire block with ink.
* Spritz enough water on the ink to thin it and make it easier to pick up on the cling wrap.
* Crinkle up a piece of cling wrap, gather it up, and twist the top. You can use the binder clip or a rubber band to hold the wrap together and create a handle, or just pinch it together as you hold it. I use one piece of cling wrap per ink color.
* Dip the wrap into the ink on the block. Lightly pounce the inked wrap on the cardstock. Lightly pouncing puts ink on the cardstock while preventing over saturation. If you prefer, watercolor paper can be used instead of cardstock, but cardstock works just fine.
* “Stamp” one color at a time, and when all colors are applied allow the piece to dry. The lightly pouncing technique allows the drying time to be minimal. You can use a heat tool to dry the piece if you wish.
* The cardstock might not dry completely flat, but it should not be curling much.  Some of the ways we’ll use the piece will take care of  any curling, but putting the piece between two cutting plates and running it through a die cutting machine will help flatten it. You can also put the piece under a book for an hour or so.

WHAT TO DO WITH THE INKED CARDSTOCK

1. Stamp image on it, and use as focal panel for card
2. Mat, add die cutting greeting, and put on card base.
3. Add texture with embossing folder and use as background panel
4. Die cutting greetings from it and use on card fronts or for scrapbook pages
5. Cut a strip and use as an accent piece on cards
6. Strategically die cutting images such as flowers, and use the leftover piece as a background
7. Use the die cut images from #6 to create a focal point on a card

FLOWERS FOR YOU

For this card I stamped the image right over the inked panel and cut the panel to size. . I used alcohol markers to add color, and the inked areas still show through. I was not certain I cared for this look, but it is starting to grow on me. Another option would be selecting a silhouette or solid stamp inked in black or another very dark color. Using a stamping platform would help insure a solid colored image.

TWO FOR ONE

I die cut flower images from one inked panel and used those to create the card on the right. Next I took a look at what remained of the inked panel and decided it would make a great card. I adhered it to a card base, traced the inside of the die cut area with a black marker, added die cut flower centers and a greeting, and had a second card!

CARDS WITH CLING WRAP DESIGNS

So there you go, a technique that is an oldie, but a goody! Most of us have some cling wrap or a reasonable facsimile around our home, so no need to buy anything special. How great is that? Yes, just a little bit of cling wrap and ink is all it takes to add color and a bit of pizzazz to your cards.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. Until next time. . .

SENTIMENTAL VALUE - CREATING CARDS THAT FOCUS ON SENTIMENTS FEATURING SWEETLY SCRIPTED

Hi Stampers,

If you are new to stamping and have few supplies, or if you are on a budget (aren’t we all) and looking for ways to get more out of your crafting dollars; do I have a tip for you! Get sentimental! That’s right! Go on the search for a great sentiment stamp set or two. Sets can be geared toward one occasion such as birthdays or designed to be used for many different occasions. Some sets contain sentiments designed  to be used on the outside of a card that have a coordinating sentiment for the inside of the card. Sentiments can be paired with most any stamped image or stand alone on a card! Some of my favorite stamps sets are sentiment sets!

So, what are some ways to show off my sentiment stamps? I thought we would explore that today! Let’s take a look at the cards I created for today’s post. I used the Sweetly Scripted stamp set to create my sample cards:

EARTHEN TEXTURES & EASY WAYS TO ADD TEXTURE, DEPTH, AND DIMENSION TO YOUR CARDS - AN IN DETAIL POST

Hi Stampers!

Today we are going to look at ways to add texture, depth, and dimension to cards! I would abbreviate it as TDD, but years ago my husband claimed those letters for his self-diagnosed “time deficit disorder! 😁
Anyway, we’ll also take an “In Detail” look at the Earthen Elegance Suite of products from Stampin’ Up!®️. This suite includes the Earthen Textures Bundle, Earthen Elegance DSP, and the Natural 1/4” Wavy Trim.The components of this suite represent great ways to add texture, depth, and dimension to cards and other paper crafting projects. We’ll also look at some simple technique that add that great texture, depth, and dimension we all love!

Although today’s projects were created using the Earthen Elegance Suite, look through your stash; it is likely you have stamp sets, dies, DSP, and trim that can add great texture, depth and dimension to your cards.  If not, no worries! The techniques we discuss add these elements to your cards as well.

Here are my sample cards:

EARTHEN TEXTURES
EASY WAYS TO ADD TEXTURE, DEPTH ,  AND DIMENSION TO CARDS

EARTHEN TEXTURES STAMP SET

EARTHEN TEXTURES DIES

WHY I CHOSE THIS SUITE TO DEMONSTRATE ADDING
TEXTURE, DEPTH, & DIMENSION TO CARDS

STAMP SET

* it features two images (pottery) that are highly textured
* the sentiments sizes and fonts can achieve the illusion of depth by combining a larger sentiment with a smaller one- our brain tends to interpret larger as closer and smaller as farther away
* the plant/foliage images can be stamped once then moved slightly and stamped again, and maybe again to help create the look of depth and dimension

DIES

* the die set includes an embossing die that can add texture to a background or one of the images
* the XX die can be use to create a texture piece for the pottery or to add some background texture
* one of the leaves dies cuts score lines allowing each leaf to be folded similar to a fan fold, which can add great dimension to cards
* the palm leaf die can be adhered to a card along the stem and center line leaving the fronds free, “fluff” them a bit with your fingers to add a touch of dimension

THE DSP

The colors included in the designs of this paper are mostly earthy with a couple other colors added for interest

* many of the paper designs appear to have raised designs as though an embossing folder has been used on them, but they are flat designs that mimic dimension and depth
* other designs use lighter and darker areas of color to achieve depth and dimension
* many of the designs have textured patterns

THE TRIM

* ribbon and / or trim always add a bit of texture and dimension to cards - this trim’s texture is “rougher” than say cotton or a sheer ribbon
* the braided effect of this trim adds even more texture as well as dimention

So, those are the reason I feel this suite of products is perfect for creating cards with lots of texture, depth, and dimension.  Of course it is possible to step up the texture, depth, and dimension! Here is a list of simple ways to do just that:

A FEW WAYS TO ADD TEXTURE, DEPTH, AND DIMENSION

* Dimensionals - everyone’s favorite, quick and easy way to add dimension
* No dimensionals, no problem, just die cut / punch out your image, then die cut/ punch out several more from cardstock  (3-5 or more, adhere these together with origami image on top, add to your focal panel and your image has dimension without dimensionals
* Embossing Folders - use them with cardstock or DSP to add more texture to a card
* After using an embossing folder go over the embossed panel (lightly) with an inked sponge dauber to add depth to the texture
* Sponge daubers or sponges - sponge around the edges of a focal layer, punched or die cut images, or mat layers to add more depth and definition
* Blending brushes - select 2 -3 colors of ink (or more), add the color to Basic White cardstock with the blending brushes and blend; there will be light and dark areas
* Placement - adhere one image to the card panel, then adhere another image with dimensionals, placing an item slightly higher or lower than other similar images, both of these tactics help create depth
* Anchoring, but not adhering image completely adds dimension (think palm fronds, flower blooms, butterflies, etc)
* Mix and match stamped and die cut /punched images to create the illusion of depth and dimension
* Use layers to create dimension
* Create a background - crumple it, flatten it out, then lightly sponge over the piece - this adds all kinds of texture, depth, and dimension

These are just a few of easy ways to add texture, depth, and dimension to your cards. What other ways can you come up with?

TEXTURED PRETTY PEACOCK THANKS

SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD

* Earthen Textures Bundle and Earthen Elegance DSP (Pretty Peacock)
* Card base - Gray Granite 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” score and folded at 4 1/4”
* DSP 5” x 3 3/4”
* Other cardstock for stamping images - Gray Granite,Wild Wheat, Pecan Pie, Pretty Peacock - I used pieces that were about 4 1/4” x 2 3/4”

* Sponge Dauber
* Water painter, small paint brush, toothbrush, etc - whatever you use to scatter ink
* Brushed Metallic Dots - Gold - 3
* Adhesive and dimensionals

ASSEMBLY NOTES

* Use the embossing die to add texture to the background panel (DSP). You will need to move the embossing die and run the piece through the die cut machine several times. I chose to cover the entire panel with the design running vertically, but you can choose to emboss only certain areas of have the design go in a horizontal direction. Use a sponge dauber and Pretty Peacock ink to add a bit of ink around the sides of the panel.
* On the Gray Granite piece of cardstock spatter a bit of Pecan Pie ink across it, then stamp the two pottery images using Gray Granite ink. Die cut the images and use a sponge dauber to add a bit of Gray Granite ink around the edges of the pottery images
* Stamp the wheat and stem images using the coordinating inks and cardstock colors and die cut. I stamped two of each, but I ended up using only one of the images I stamped on the Pecan Pie cardstock.
* Adhere the two pottery images together by placing adhesive on the left edge of the smaller jug and adhere it to the larger one. Arrange the wheat and other stems by adhering them to the back side of the pottery pieces.
Place dimensionals on the back side of the pottery images and on the back stem in each arrangement. The tops of the other stems will be free adding a nice touch of depth and dimension.
* Adhere the background to the card base, and stamp the greeting about 1” down from the top of the DSP toward the right side.
* Adhere the focal piece to the card front.
* Add the 3 brushed metallic dots.

Hi Stampers!

Today we will take a look at the Fresh As A Daisy Suite from Stampin’ Up! ®️ This suite of products is part of the Stampin’ Up! 2023 Annual Catalog. I like all the components of this suite, but my favorite is the DSP, especially a specific sheet of the DSP. In my last post used designs from one pack of paper to create cards. For today’s post I used just one particular sheet of DSP, and made 10 cards! Let’s take a look:

Here is the sheet of DSP I used to create the cards:
