FAUX TORN PAPER - MASKING TECHNIQUE; AN EASY WAY TO STEP UP YOUR CARDS!

 Hi Stampers!

Today I have a fun and easy technique to share with you! It is called Faux Torn Paper. It is a masking technique; it is an easy way to step up your cards for a bit of wow! Today’s card is actually a CASE from the upcoming STAMPIN’UP! 2021-22 ANNUAL CATALOG. The card is found on page 26 of the upcoming annual catalog, and features the ENJOY THE MOMENT stamp set.  (This set will carry over from the current mini catalog to the new annual catalog.) My version of the card uses different ink colors, different sentiment, no embossing, and no twine.

Let’s take  a look at the card.

INSIDE THE CARD

The sentiment inside the card is from the HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS stamp set found in the current annual catalog. This stamp set is also carrying over to the new annual catalog.

MORE CARD LAYOUTS THAT USE SCRAPS

 Hi Stampers!

Last week I shared two similar card layouts that focused on using scraps of cardstock and scraps of Designer Series Paper (DSP). Today I have two more similar card layouts to share that also focus on using scraps of cardstock and scraps of DSP. Each layout can be oriented in portrait or landscape perspective.

This week my cards are all birthday cards, and the scraps are from the ARTISTRY BLOOMS DSP (Annual Catalog). The cardstock scraps are Basic Black or Basic White. There are a few exceptions. Cardstock scraps were also used  for the images and greetings on the cards.

Let’s take a look at the cards.

SHORT STRIPS OF SCRAPS CARDS

To create these cards you will need:
* An A2 sized card base that is either 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” - scored and folded at 4 1/4” or 11” x 4 1/4”- scored and folded at 5 1/2”
* Three strips of DSP each cut at 1 1/4” x 3 3/4”
* Three strips of cardstock for mats, cut at 1 3/8” x 3 7/8”

General instructions for assembly:
* Adhere the DSP strips to the cardstock mats to form 3 panels.
* Adhere the panels to the card base, centering the panels top to bottom, and having about 1/4” border on the sides.
* Adhere the greeting and other images.

RIDE THE RANGE BIRTHDAY

* Garden Green card base, three strips of DSP with Garden Green as the main color, three strips of Basic White cardstock to mat the DSP. These scraps should be cut at dimensions given above.
* Scraps of Basic White cardstock and a small scrap of Garden Green cardstock for the focal image and the sentiment. For the sentiment cut Basic White cardstock at 2 1/4” x 1 1/8”. Stamp the greeting on this piece with Garden Green ink.  To mat the greeting cut a pierce of Garden Green 1 1/4” x 2 1/4” and a piece of Basic White cut at 1 3/8” x 2 3/8”.
* Garden Green ink
* To color the focal image I used - Stampin’ Blends - Old Olive (light), Pool Party (light), So Saffron (light & dark), Crumb Cake (light & dark), Misty Moonlight (dark), Poppy Parade (light).
* Ride the Range stamp set and Open Range Dies and Happy Thoughts stamp set (all found in the mini catalog).
* All the parts and pieces are put together using Stampin’ Seal except for the horse and rider image which is popped up on dimensionals.

BUTTERFLY BRILLIANCE BIRTHDAY

* This card is identical to the previous card. I just changed the colors  - Gorgeous Grape and Basic White.
* For the sentiment - Basic White cut at 1 1/8” x 2 7/8” and a scrap of Gorgeous Grape cut at 3” x 1 1/4”.
* Stamp the greeting with Gorgeous Grape ink.
* On a 6” x 6” piece of Basic White cardstock, stamp the Butterfly Brilliance stamp using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Color the butterflies. The butterfly I chose for this card was colored using Highland Heather and Magenta Madness Stampin’ Blends. Die cut the butterflies.
* Use Stampin’ Seal to attach the pieces to the cards. Attach the greeting and the butterfly with dimensionals.
* Happy Thoughts stamp set (mini catalog), Butterfly Brilliance stamp set and Brilliant Wings Dies (Special promotion, for details click HERE ).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHICK!

* The strips for this card are the same as for the previous two cards. The only difference is the focal images and sentiment have been positioned to make the card portrait oriented.
* The card base is Melon Mambo, and the DSP is matted on Basic Black.
* Scraps of Basic White and a scrap of Basic Black cardstock is used for the images and the sentiment.
* Memento Tuxedo Black, Melon Mambo, and Mango Medley inks
* Stampin’ Blends - Mango Medley (dark), Daffodil Delight (dark & light), Magenta Madness (light), Smoky Slate (light, Color Lifter
* Hey Chick & Hey Birthday Chick stamp sets and coordinating dies.
* Stitched Shaped Dies (circles)
* The background panels and the greeting pieces are attached with Stampin’ Seal. The greeting panel and the other die cut images are attached to the card with dimensionals.

* An A2 sized card base (see instructions for previous card layout.)
* Three strips of DSP cut at 1” x 4 7/8”
* Three cardstock mats cut at 1 1/8” x 5”

General instructions for assembly:

* Memento Tuxedo Black ink, Stampin’ Blends - Mango Medley (dark), Melon Mambo (light), Calypso Coral (dark & light).
Stamp sets - Timeless Tropical (annual catalog) and Happy Thoughts (mini catalog)

Flowering Desert Birthday

* The strips for this card are placed on the card base exactly the same way as the previous two cards, the greeting and images are placed on the card in a landscape orientation.
* This card front involves no stamping.
* The card base is Calypso Coral. The mats are Basic White. The greeting is a die cut from Basic White.
* The Birthday Chick Dies were used to cut out the greeting.

BUTTERFLY BRILLIANCE CARD IDEAS

 Hi Stampers,

Today’s cards were made using the BUTTERFLY BRILLIANCE and the BRILLIANT BUTTERFLY DIES. Theses products are early release items from the STAMPIN’ UP!®️ 2021-22 ANNUAL CATALOG. They are also part of the BUTTERFLY BOUQUET COLLECTION, (available now - 3 May) which also includes the BUTTERFLY BIJOU DESIGNER SERIES PAPER and the NATURAL TOUCH SPECIALTY PAPER.  For more information about these products click HERE .

See my 15 February post, BUTTERFLY BOUQUET COMING YOUR WAY, to view samples of the DSP and more sample cards.

The DSP and the specialty paper will be available only through 3 May, or while supplies last. You may purchase the entire collection, or purchase individual items. When you purchase the stamp set and dies together as a bundle or as part of the collection, you save 10% on those two products.

Here is a look at the stamp set and the dies.

BUTTERFLY BRILLIANCE STAMP SET

BRILLIANT WINGS DIES

The stamp set is one large stamp, basically a background stamp. Below is how the image appears when stamped.  I stamped the image using my Stamparatus and Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Basic White cardstock.

I colored the images with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers.

As you can see the large die fits perfectly over the stamped images for perfectly die cut butterflies!

The large die also coordinates with one of the designs of the DSP!

Now let’s take a look at some of the cards I created using the stamp set, dies, and DSP.

I really like this piece of DSP, and decided to let it do the work on this card. I stamped the “happy birthday” directly on the DSP. (TIMELESS TULIP current annual catalog). Next I matted the focal layer on Basic White, and adhered the piece to a Just Jade card base. How easy is that?

These two card are easy as well! I placed the card base in my Stamperatus and stamped the background. Both card bases are Pool Party. The first is stamped with Bermuda Bay ink; the second with Coastal Cabana. I die cut the circle and the scalloped square from Basic White cardstock, and stamped the “thank you” three times. The greeting is from the SPECIAL SOMEONE stamp set (current annual catalog). So easy!

This piece of HYDRANGEA HILL DSP (current mini catalog) had been sitting on the corner of my desk for a few days. I put it on a Purple Posey card base, stamped the “happy birthday” (SPECIAL SOMEONE - current annual catalog), then added a die cut butterfly from  the BUTTERFLY BIJOU DSP. Again, very easy, but very pretty.

The butterfly on this card was stamped and die cut. It was colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers. The card base is Calypso Coral. The DSP is from the BUTTERFLY BIJOU DSP. The greeting is from the HAPPY THOUGHTS stamp set (mini catalog), and is stamped using Calypso Coral ink on a Petal Pink circle that was die cut using the STITCHED SHAPES DIES (Current Annual Catalog). I added few rhinestones I colored with the Stampin’ Blends Calypso Coral -dark.

This card features more of the BUTTERFLY BIJOU DSP paired with a So Saffron  card base. The detailed butterflies were die cut from So Saffron and Calypso Coral cardstock. The sentiment is from the HAPPY THOUGHTS stamp set (mini catalog).

This basic Z Fold card features a Bermuda Bay and HighlNd Heather color combo. I die cut butterflies from Highland Heather cardstock using the large die. Next I die cut the detailed butterflies from Bermuda Bay cardstock, and adhered them to the solid Highland Heather butterflies. The sentiments are from the HEY BIRTHDAY CHICK stamp set (mini catalog).

This is an interlocking card. The Just Jade card base  is 4 1/4” x 11” scored and folded at 2 3/4” and 8 1/4”. The DSP is from BUTTERFLY BIJOU DSP. Two of the detailed butterfly die cuts were added as embellishments. The sentiments are from SPECIAL SOMEONE and the HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS stamp sets (current annual catalog).

CREATE A Z FOLD WITH A BAND CARD

 Hi Stampers!

Today’s card is what I call a Z Fold With A Band. It is similar to the Z Fold Panel Card (see previous blog post). This card is a Basic Z Fold Card (landscape) with a 1 1/4” band across the bottom of the card. This card can be oriented as either a landscape or a portrait card. Here is my sample card:

This card was created using products from the Butterfly Bouquet promotion. Items from this promotion will be available for order beginning 2 March 2021. For my card I used the Butterfly Bijou DSP and the Brilliant Wings Dies.

BUTTERFLY BRILLIANCE

Brilliant Wings Dies

BUTTERFLY BIJOU DSP

The largest die in the set cuts out multiple butterflies from one design of the designer series paper.  I used two of the die cut butterflies on my card.

Here is a diagram for cutting and scoring the pieces for the card. Once you have scored the two parts of the card, add your layers and focal images, then assemble the card.

To create the Z Fold With A Band Card you will need two pieces of cardstock.  This card features Blushing Bride cardstock with Petal Pink.
* The card base is 4 1/4” x 11” scored and folded at 2 3/4” and 5 1/2”
* The band is 1 1/4” x 11”, scored and folded at 5 1/2” and 8 1/4”

Once you have adhered the layers to the card, place adhesive along the lower edge of the 2 3/4” section of the card. press the 5 1/2” portion of the band onto the bottom of the card. Place adhesive on the back side of the right end of band and adhere to card. That is all there is to it!

This finishes my series on Z Fold Cards. There are many more ways to make and modify a Z Fold card. In general Z Cards are easy to make, and are always appreciated by the recpients!

Check back in tomorrow for a recap of all the cards I have demonstrated this week, and an instructional video on assembling the cards!

Thank you for joining me today. Until next time...
