SEND SEASON’S GREETING WITH A TOWER PINWHEEL CARD; A TINSEL TIME TUESDAY POST

Hi, Stampers!

Here we are, beginning the second half  of this year’s Tinsel Time Tuesday! I hope your stash of  Christmas cards is growing, and by the time December arrives you will have all you need to send family and friends Holiday greetings.

Today’s card is a fun fold of sorts. It is called a tower pinwheel card (or maybe a pinwheel tower card, or a tower card 🙂). Have you seen the card? I first saw the card this past spring on Pinterest (I think), and since have seen more and more of them! I am not certain who came up with the idea for this card, but whoever you are, thank you!

Let’s take a look at the cards I made:

And here is a look at the card from the top. In the center you can see the mechanism that makes the cards interestingly interactive. Page down to view video tutorial on putting the card together.

This card can be made any size you like by adjusting the height of the “tower” and the size of the “wings” (pinwheel part). We’ll talk more about that later.

Three of my cards, when flat, measure 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” and will fit in a Stampin’ Up!®️ medium envelope. The fourth card measures 6” x 4”.

PEACEFUL CABIN CARDS

BIRTHDAY

CHRISTMAS

These cards are identical with the exception of the sentiments. I love the colors in the Peaceful Place DSP - Smoky Slate, Basic Gray, Basic Black, and Silver. Many of the designs can be used year round, the remaining are wintry. It is a great package of DSP for masculine cards, and of course, Christmas cards.

Here is a look at the stamp set:

PEACEFUL CABIN

Here are the other three sides of the cards:

Isn’t the cabin pattern great?  The cabin with the porch reminds me of my house a bit.

SUPPLIES FOR THE CARD
* Piece of DSP cut at 4 1/4” x 4 1/4” and scored at 1”, 2”, 3”, and 4”.
* 4 pieces of Basic Gray cardstock cut at 4 1/4” x 2 3/4”.
* 4 pieces of DSP cut at 4” x 2 1/2” - be aware of pattern direction.
* 4 pieces of DSP cut at 4” x 1 1/2” - be aware of pattern direction. One piece can be Basic Whiteto use as a space to write a short message and sign.
* Simply Elegant Trim, Silver - about 12 -14”.
* Basic Gray ink.
* Adhesive and dimensionals.

WHIMSICAL TREES CARD
(This card measures 6” x 4”)

The tree is die cut from the DSP. The Holly was stamped with Smokey Slate ink, colored with Stampin’ Blends, and die cut.

WHIMSICAL TREES STAMP SET

Here are the other three sides of the card:

I fussy cut packages from another piece of the DSP, put dimensionals on the back, and adhered them over the top of a corresponding package on the card panel. This added a bit of dimensional interest to the card panel.

SUPPLIES FOR THE CARD
* DSP for tower, cut at 4” x 4 1/4”. Score along 4 1/4” side at 1”, 2”, 3”, and 4”.
* Mint Macaron cardstock cut at 4” x 3” and scrap to mat greeting.
* Whimsy & Wonder DSP; 4 pieces cut at 3 3/4” x 2 3/4” and 3 pieces cut at 3 3/4” x 1 3/4”, plus 2 pieces of Basic White cardstock cut at 3 3/4” x 1 3/4” for greetings.
* Basic White scraps to stamp and die cut a tree image, and 3 holly images, and for Stampin greeting.
* DSP pattern with tree image and gift images. Fussy cut the gifts, die cut the tree image with the Christmas Trees Dies.
* Inks - Smoky Slate; Stampin’ Blends - Flirty Flamingo (light) and Mint Macaron (light).
* Metallic Pearls- silver.
* Adhesive and dimensionals.

SNOW WONDER AND PERFECTLY PLAID CARD

For this card I used pieces of Real Red and Mossy Meadow cardstock. I alternated the colors as I adhered them to the tower.

Here are the other sides of the card:

SUPPLIES FOR THIS CARD
* DSP for tower cut at 4 1/4” square, and scored at 1”, 2”, 3”, and 4”.
* Cardstock cut at 4” x 2 3/4” - 2 Real Red and 2 Mossy Meadow.
* Heart Warming Hugs DSP - 4 pieces cut at 4” x 2 1/2” and 4 cut at 4” x 1 1/2”.
* Basic White cardstock - 2 at  3 3/4” x 1 1/2”, plus scraps for greeting and to stamp images for die cutting  (trees, wreath, and greeting).
* Snow Time Dies and Stitched Rectangles Dies.
* Inks - Real Red and Mossy Meadow; Stampin’ Blends - Real Red (light and dark), Mossy Meadow (light and dark).
* Wonderful Gems - red -6.
* Adhesive and dimensionals.

Instructions for scoring “tower” and cutting dimensions for  a 5 1/2” x 4 1/4” size card.

(Click to enlarge.)

DIFFERENT SIZES OF CARDS

It is easy to change the size of the card. For all cards the tower piece will be 4 1/4” wide and the scoring will be the same.  Simple change the height of the tower to the height you want the card to be. For example, if you want the card to be 4” tall x 6” wider
* The tower will be 4” x 4 1/4” svored along the 4 1/4” side scored at 1”, 2”, 3”, and 4”.
* For the “wings” you will need 4 pieces cut at 4” (height of the card) x 3” (half the width of the card - 1/2 of 6 is 3).

Let’ try one more example:
For a 5” x 7” card
* The tower piece will be 5” x 4 1/4”.
* The wings will be 5” x 3 1/2” (half of 7”).

In general it I feel it is easier to decorate the cards if the lesser measurement of the card dimension is the tower height and the greater measurement is the width. This gives more room for decorating the card. This doesn’t mean you cannot reverse the measurements. The sections of your card will be narrower. The tower width will still be 4 1/4”.

PEACEFUL DEER - HOW TO GET A REVERSE PUNCHED IMAGE; A TINSEL TIME TUESDAY POST

 Hi Stampers!

Welcome to week two of TINSEL TIME TUESDAY. Each Tuesday between now and 14 December I will share a Christmas card, gift tags, or gift packaging ideas. I hope my projects will inspire you as you create your Holiday cards and projects.

Today’s card features the PEACEFUL DEER BUNDLE from the STAMPIN’ UP!®️ JULY - DECEMBER 2021 MINI CATALOG. The card also uses the PEACEFUL PRINTS DSP. This DSP is found in the SALE-A-BRATION BROCHURE. You can choose the DSP for free with a $50 (US) Stampin’ Up! product purchase. This card was inspired by a tag found on page 9 of the SALE-A-BRATION BROCHURE. Let’s take a look at the card.

For the card’s greeting I used the “Merry Christmas” from the PERFECTLY PLAID stamp set (Annual Catalog).

PEACEFUL DEER & PERFECTLY PLAID STAMP SETS

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THIS CARD

* Peaceful Prints DSP - Real Red with white snowflakes cut at 5 1/4” x 4”; Sahara Sand with deer and trees cut at 5” x 3 3/4”; Basic Black & Real Red checked with deer images on reverse side (you will need 3 deer images ).

NOTE - See the video toward the end of this post to learn how to punch a reversed image from the DSP, and to view an alternative option for the deer.

* Early Espresso card base - 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4”; Sahara bSand cardstock cut at 5 1/4” x 4” for inside the card.
* Early Espresso Faux Suede Trim - two pieces, one cut at 5” and another at about 3”.

*Inks - Sahara Sand, Early Espresso, Sahara Sand, and Garden Green
* Blending brush and a sponge dauber.

Adhesive of choice and glue dots.

ASSEMBLY

* “Age” the three deer by using the sponge dauber and Sahara Sand ink to cover the white border around the deer. It is okay if it gets on the checked print. This will give the deer a distressed look or a vintage look (depends on your perspective). This technique also tones down the white.

* Use the blending brush to add some Sahara Sand ink to the deer / tree patterned DSP. Add it around the edges and toward the center. No need to cover the entire piece.

* Use the Garden Green ink to stamp the tree images from PEACEFUL DEER stamp set. Use the photo above for placement.

* Use the Early Espresso ink, stamp the “Merry Christmas” (from PERFECTLY PLAID) in the upper right corner of the focal panel. Stamp two greetings from the PEACEFUL PRINTS stamp set (It’s the best time of the year, and wising you a wonderful year…) with Early Espresso ink on the Sahara Sand cardstock.

* Adhere two deer to the card front focal panel and one to the inside panel.

* Put a glue dot on one end of the 5” of the trim. Adhere this to the back side of the focal panel toward the bottom of the panel. Check photo for placement. Attach another glue dot to the other end of the trim and adhere it to the back of the panel. Take another glue dot, and slip it under the trim toward the middle.

* Slip the 3” piece of trim under the left side of the other piece of trim. Tie a knot and trim the ends.

* Adhere the focal panel to the Real Red DSP.

* Adhere this to the card base.

* Adhere the Sahara Sand panel to the inside of the card.

* The card is finished!

Watch the video below to learn how to reverse a punched image. The video discusses three options.

REVERSING THE PUNCH FOR THE PEACEFUL PRINTS DSP

METHOD 1- USE A TEMPLATE

You will need a piece of vellum (or printer paper) that is 5” x 3” scored and folded at 2 1/2” along the 5” side.
* Punch through both layers of vellum (printer paper)
* Trim the DSP making sure the punch can reach the deer image
* Line up one side of the vellum template with the deer image. Secure the template with washi tape (or low tack tape)
* Fold the template over the DSP, and punch the image (on opposite side of the DSP - the checked pattern).

METHOD 2 - TRACE THE IMAGE

* You will need a light box / tracing box (a window will work as well) the DSP and a fine point pen or marker
* Trim the DSP to ensure the punch can reach the deer image
* Place the DSP (deer side down) on the light box / tracing box; or place the DSP on a window with the checked pattern facing you and secure with washi tape.
* Use the pen to trace the outline of the deer.
* Punch out the traced image.

ALTERNATIVE - FOR A SIMILAR LOOK

* Punch a deer image from the black and red checked side of the DSP
* Flip the DSP and punch a deer from the other side of the paper
* You now have two deer black and red checked images that face the opposite direction
* Use the sponge dauber to go around the images with the Sahara Sand ink.
*** This method works with all punched images.

That wraps up TINSEL TIME TUESDAY for this week. Stop by next Tuesday when the card will feature the PENGUIN PLACE BUNDLE (Mini Catalog). Until next time…

The card front measures 4 1/4” x 4 1/4”. These cards will fit just fine in the Stampin’ Up!®️ medium envelopes (5 3/4” x 4 3/8”). Let’s look at the cards:

Yes, I included a Christmas card! I know summer is just beginning, but this is the time of year when I begin planning my Christmas card making strategy. For the Christmas card I used the PERFECTLY PLAID stamp set. The floral card was stamped with images from the LOVELY YOU stamp set. The two remaining cards were stamped using the ALL SQUARED AWAY stamp set. All three stamp sets can be found in the STAMPIN’ UP! 2021-2022 ANNUAL CATALOG.

ALL SQUARED AWAY CARDS

These two cards are basically the same, I just changed the colors and embellished them a bit differently. I used Basic White card bases, and stamped four images from the ALL SQUARED AWAY stamp set on the card front. I just eyeballed the placement.

In the four white squares stamp the flower images and the sentiment.

TINSEL TIME THURSDAY CARD # 12

 Hello, and welcome to week twelve of Tinsel Time Thursday. I hope your collection of Christmas cards is growing, and soon you will have plenty to send Holiday cheer to all your friends and family.

Let’s take a look at today’s card. It features the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set, the Pine Tree Punch (both found in the annual catalog), and the Plaid Tidings DSP (found in the current mini catalog). Today’s card is a spinner card. It is easier to make than you think!

Here is a look at the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set:

Here are the other supplies needed to make the card:

The card base is Cherry Cobbler. It measures 4 1/4” x 11”. It is scored and folded at 5 1/2”. You will also need scraps of Cherry Cobbler cardstock to cut two circular window frames.

Whisper White cardstock cut at 4” x 5 1/4”, plus a small scrap of Whisper White for the greeting.

One 6x6 piece of Perfectly Plaid DSP

The Pine Tree Punch, and the two largest circle dies from the Stitched Shapes Dies.

Clear fishing line - about 4” - 4 1/2” long, Stampin’ Seal (or adhesive of your choice), Stampin’ Seal + (or Tear & Tape), and some cellophane tape.

Cherry Cobbler ink and the Stitched Rectangles Die that measures 1 1/2” x  2 7/8”. These items are for the greetings.

Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels - these are found in the annual catalog on page 156. I used the a Pumpkin Pie ones as they appear more gold  than orange against the plaid pattern.

To assemble the card:

Cut a piece of DSP that measures 4” x 5 1/4”. This piece is for the front of the card. The remaining pieces will be used for the pine tree images and to decorate the inside of the card.

Using the Pine Tree Punch, punch a tree from one end of the 2” x 6” piece of DSP. Make sure the red and green plaid pattern is facing up. Now turn the DSP over and on the opposite end of the DSP punch another tree making sure the orange and black plaid design is facing up. The reason for this is the tree image is not symmetrical.  This ensures the two trees line up correctly when adhered together back to back.

Next take the DSP designated for the front of the card and place a small amount of Stampin’ Seal On the back side in the center about 3” from The top of the DSP. Tap on the adhesive with your finger a few times to reduce the stickiness. This small amount of adhesive needs to hold the DSP to the Cherry Cobbler card base temporarily.

Center the DSP on the card front. Position the smallest of the two Stitched Shapes circle die about 1” from the card base. Run this through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine (or other die cutting machine)

Remove the cut out circle - we will be using that later, lay aside the DSP. If you have not done so, cut a 4” - 4 1/2” piece of clear fishing line.

Using the Stampin’ Seal+ or other strong adhesive lay down a strip of adhesive along the top and bottom centers of the circle cut out. Place one end of the fishing line in the center of the adhesive at the top of the circle, press to secure, then use a piece of cellophane tape to secure the line. Press the tape down to make sure the fishing line is securely adhere. Repeat the process at the bottom of  the circle making sure to pull the fishing line taut.

Taking the tree punched out wit the orange and black plaid pattern facing up, apply Stampin’ Seal to the orange side. Place it under the fishing line, centering the line along the top and the trunk of the tree.

Put adhesive on the back side of the remaining tree (the orange side).  Line it up With the other tree along the fishing line. Press down to ensure both sides of the tree are adhered together.

Take the remaining strip of DSP and adhere it to the top of the Whisper White piece of cardstock that will go inside the card. Adhere the DSP reserved for the card front to the card making certain to align it with the die cut circle.

Using Cherry Cobbler ink, stamp a sentiment from the Perfectly Plaid Stamp Set toward the bottom of the insert for the inside of the card.

Taking circle die cut that remains, separate the DSP from the cardstock. Punch another Tree from the DSP die cut circle with the red and green plaid pattern facing up. * To make die cutting easier take a scrap piece of cardstock about 1/4” - 1/2” wide and 2” - 3” long and tape it along the edge on the back side of the circle (the orange plaid side). This will make a handle making it easier to manipulate the DSP into the punch.

Open up the card. Adhere the Whisper White piece to the inside. Apply adhesive to the back side (orange plaid) of the punched out tree. Place it adhesive side up on the other trees, taking care to line up all the edges. Now bring the back of the card up on close the card. Give the area where the tree is a gentle press. Open the card and the inside tree should be adhered, and line up perfectly with the other two trees.

Use the two Stiched Shapes circle dies to cut out two frames.

Place one frame on the outside around the die cut circle, Place the other frame on the inside of the card on the back side of the circle. The one on the inside is not necessary, but it gives the inside of the card a more finished look.

On the scrap of Whisper White using the Cherry Cobbler ink, stamp the Merry Christmas greeting . Die cut this greeting using the Stitched Rectangles die. Adhere to the front of the card. Embellish the greeting panel and the tree with the holiday gems.

The card is finished. Prior to placing the card in the envelope, twist the trees on the fishing line several times, making sure the side with the gems remains on the outside when finished. When the recipient opens the card, the trees should spin!

I hope you have enjoyed learning how to make a spinner card, and as always, I hope I have provided you with greatinkspirations,

Next Tinsel Time Thursday feature two stamp sets - Itty Bitty Christmas and Peaceful Nativity.

Until next time...
