HAPPY WORLD CARD MAKING DAY! What better way to celebrate than to make a card together! Let’s try an offset gate fold with a centered focal panel. Here is a look at the sample card:

IT’S WORLD CARD MAKING DAY, SO LET’S MAKE A CARD

WHAT YOU NEED

* Card base - Cardstock color of choice cut at  8 1’2” x 5 1/2”

* Focal Panel Mats - Cardstock same color as base - cut at  4 1/4” x 3”; Cardstock complementary color - cut at 4” x 2 3/4” - ALTERNATIVE - use layering or nesting dies -rectangles, squares, circles , ovals, etc.

* Inside Panel - white or light colored cardstock cut at 5 1/4” x 4”

* Mat for Right Front - Cardstock or patterned paper cut at 5 1/2” x 1 1/4”. 

* Mat for Left Front Panel - cut patterned paper at 5 1/2” x 2 1/2”, can use cardstock as well. 

* Focal Image & Greeting - can stamp and die cut, or use ephemera. 

* Adhesives of choice, dimensionals, foam tape, etc.

WHAT TO DO

* Score card base along 8 1/2” side at 2 3/4” and 7”. Fold score lines toward center of card (mountain folds), go over creases with bone folder.

* Adhere mats to front of card. The wider mat goes on the left. The narrower mat goes on the right side.

If using cardstock for the narrow mat run it through an embossing folder to add texture (optional). ALTERNATIVE -The strip of cardstock can also be stamped with images to add interest, or stamp directly onto the card base. Substitute patterned paper for the cardstock if you like.

* Stamp image and/or sentiment on inside panel. Adhere this panel to card.

* Adhere focal image mats. Adhere or stamp image and sentiment to focal panel. 

* Adhere focal piece to card base. It will be adhered to the right side. Adhesive will go on back side of right side of piece.

* Add any embellishments you like.

IT’S WORLD CARD MAKING DAY - LET’S MAKE A MULTI- WINDOW CARD TO CELEBRATE!

Today is the first Saturday in October, and that means today is World Card Making Day! I thought we’d celebrate by creating a multi-window card. It’s easy. Let’s take a look at the sample cards:

Multi-window cards are easy to make and are very versatile. There are dies available that cut out multiple windows, but you can get the same or similar look with basic shaped dies or even punches. I chose 3 windows of the same size for each card, but more windows can be added and the sizes can be different. The images and sentiment chosen will help determine the sizes of the windows. Remember, it is okay to use just part of an image.

The circles I die cut from the focal panel were placed back in the windows either popped up on dimensionals, or adhered to the card base with the focal panel popped up. The die cut pieces can be omitted if you like.  Frames around the windows can add that little extra something to the card. Simply place the die used for the window on the cardstock and place a die that is 1/4” larger in diameter around it, and cut. Punches can be used in the same way. Punch the smaller shape first, then place the larger punch around the hold, and punch again to create the frame.

LET’S MAKE A MULTI-WONDOW CARD

LET IT SNOW CARD

SUPPLIES I USED

* Stamps - Bubble Snowmen (Woodware Craft Collection). SparklingSnowflakes (Stampin’ Up!®️ - retired); Holiday Cheer (Waffle Flower)

* Card base - white cardstock (Basic White - thick) 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4”

* Focal panel - white cardstock (Basic White) and blue (Balmy Blue) patterned paper with snow-like pattern - use what you have, cut at 5 1/4” x 4”; put adhesive along the edges of the white cardstock and place the blue patterned paper on top.

* Other cardstock - white for frames, sentiments, and for stamping images

* Dies - Stylish Shapes (Stampin’ Up!) - circle dies - 1 3/4” diameter for windows; 2” + 1 3/4” diameter for frames, and 1 1/4” for sentiment

* Inks - Memento Tuxedo Black, Balmy Blue; Stampin’ Blends - Real Red, Poppy Parade, Old Olive, Granny Apple Green, Pumpkin Pie, Smoky Slate, Badic Black, Pool Party

* Temporary adhesive, liquid glue or adhesive of choice, and dimensionals

ASSEMBLY

* Cut 3 windows from the focal panel save the die cut patterned paper circles

* Die cut or punch out the frames and the circles for the sentiments

* Prepare the images and stamp sentiments.

* Put temporary adhesive on the focal panel, center it on the card front, and press.

* Place adhesive on back of die cut patterned paper and put these pieces in the windows.

* Remove panel, add frames to panel, put dimensionals on the back of panel, Arrange and attach snowmen to panel putting dimentionals behind each snowman head;  adhere this to card front.

* Adhere sentiments.

* Stamp inside the card

MAGICAL BIRTHDAY CARD

SUPPLIES I USED

* Stamps - Majestic Unicorn and dies (Trinity Stamps), Pirates & Mermaids (Stampin’ Up! - retired)

* Card base - Teal-blue cardstock (Tahitian Tide - retired) 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4”

* Focal panel - white cardstock cut at 5” x 3 3/4”

* Inside panel - white cardstock cut at 5” x 3 3/4”

* Other cardstock - white for stamping images

* Inks - Distress Oxide - Picked Raspberry, Salty Ocean, Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron; Memento Tuxedo Black; Stampin’ Blends - various colors

* Blending tool of choice

* Circle Die - 1 3/4” diameter (Stylish Shapes- Stampin’ Up!)

* Adhesives and dimensionals

NOTES

* Use the Distress Oxide inks and blending tool to add color to the focal panel.

* This card is assembled as the previous card, except the only dimensionals used were for the back of the sentiment.

VIDEO CARD

SUPPLIES I USED

* Stamps - Silly Santas and dies (Simon Hurley) and Holiday Cheer (Waffle Flower)

* Card base - red (Poppy Parade) - 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4”

* Focal panel and inside panel - white cardstock, both cut at 5 1/4” x 4”

* Other cardstock - white and red for stamping and die cutting

* Circle dies - 1 1/4”  diameter

* Embossing folder - Snowflake Sky (Stampin’ Up!)

* Adhesives and dimensionals 

NOTE

* For focal panel - cut windows, then put panel and die cut circles in embossing folder and emboss.

* Assemble in same manner as snowmen card.

AUGMENTED VIDEO CARD

I added frames to the card. I think the frames add a lot of definition and dimension. For the frames I used a 1 1/4” an 1 1/2” diameter circle dies (Stylish Frames - Stampin’ Up!).

IT’S WORLD CARD MAKING DAY - YOU MAY NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH YOUR HANDMADE CARDS MEAN TO OTHERS

The second Saturday in October is World Card Making Day, and the second Saturday in October is today (2 October 2021).  Today’s post is a bit different than my other posts. Today I am not sharing a card I created, but a card created for me by a very dear friend. Let’s take a look at the card:

I love everything about this card the colors, the layout, the floral image, but most of all I love the fact my friend, Meredith, took time from her very busy life to create a card just for me. 

Meredith and I were neighbors for nine years. We were military wives and part of a group of women experiencing life during a very tumultuous time when all our spouses were deployed. We spent a lot of time together, supporting one another, watching one another’s kids, celebrating holidays and birthdays together, and rejoicing together every time one of our spouses returned from deployment. 

Another thing we did was share our hobbies with one another. I taught several how to crochet, others shared special recipes, and Meredith shared her love of scrapbooking and card making. Meredith is the person who introduced me to card making and she is the first one who showed me a Stampin’ Up! ®️ catalog. That was sixteen years ago! 

But… getting back to the card, it has been sitting on a shelf in my craft room since I received it several months back. Wednesday morning I was working on some card ideas when, for no apparent reason, the card fell from the shelf. I remember thinking, “that’s weird.” I picked up the card and placed it back on the shelf. I did not give the incident another thought until later that day. I received a phone call from another friend. The news was not good. My dear friend, Meredith, had passed away of COVID 19 at the age of 49. I was in total shock, my mind seemed blank. Suddenly the card falling from the shelf popped into my mind. Am I saying Meredith was sending me a message? Maybe. All I know is that card was so special to me, because my dear friend made it for me and took the time to send it to me. Now that card is even more precious to me. It is the last card she will make for me, and it means the world to me.

As we celebrate World Card Making Day, I hope you have the opportunity to go to your crafting space, create a beautiful card, and then send it to someone. I guarantee it will brighten their day.  You just never know the impact something as simple as a handmade card will have on a person’s life.
