TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF

 TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF

AND LEARN THE HERRING BONE TECHNIQUE

Earlier this week a fellow Stampin’ Up! ®️ demonstrator, Carole Parsons, reminded me of a background technique I had learned a few years ago, the herring bone technique. When I learned this technique I liked the results, but completing the background piece felt like drudgery! I basically gave up, and filed the instructions for the herring bone technique way in the back of my drawer. This week I watched Carole’s video, and two tips she mentioned brought everything into focus for me! This week I have made several cards using this technique! No more drudgery, just fun!

You can find Carole’s tutorial HERE

This is a card I made using the herring bone technique for the frame around the image.

The stamped image is from the Seaside View stamp set.

To begin my project I cut 1/4” strips of paper from the Snowflake Splendor DSP (August - December Mini Catalog). I chose strips that contained solid colors as opposed to patterns. I cut a piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock at 5” x 3 3/4”. I covered one side of the cardstock with an adhesive sheet (one of Carole’s terrific tips), and marked off 4 sections as shown in the photos below.

Next I started filling in each section with the DSP in “V” shapes. (Another one of Carole’s tips). I kept going until the entire piece of cardstock was filled in.

Next I used one of the Stitched Rectangles Dies to cut the center from the piece. I trimmed the excess DSP from the frame. The frame and center piece were then embossed with the one of the Wrapped In Texture embossing folders (Mini Catalog).

I stamped the image on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, and colored the image with Stampin’ Blends, adhered the frame to the focal panel, then adhered the focal panel to a Whisper White (thick) card base. The sentiment is stamped using Pool Party ink. I added some Pool Party Sheer Ribbon (annual catalog) to finish the card.

Many thanks to Carole for reintroducing me to the herring bone technique. I hope you will try this technique, and I hope this post has provided you with greatinkspirations.

Until next time...
Stamp Happy!
