TACO FIESTA STAMP SET & TWO MASKING TECHNIQUES THAT ADD VERSATILITY TO YOUR STAMP SETS

Hi Stampers!

Today’s cards feature the TACO FIESTA stamp set from the STAMPIN’ UP!®️ JANUARY - APRIL 2023 MINI CATALOG. This stamp set is full of fun images and sentiments. It is a very versatile stamp set, but it can be even more versatile by using a couple of masking techniques! Let’s take a look at the cards and the stamp set:

TACO FIESTA STAMP SET

WHAT IS MASKING AND WHY DO IT?

Masking simply means covering up a stamped image, an area of cardstock, or an area on a stamp to prevent ink from being being applied to it. A mask is the material used to cover the area - a sticky note, masking paper, Washi tape, painter’s tape, etc.

* Use a mask to cover areas where you want no ink or different color of ink when using a blending brush, sponge, or  brayer to cover stamped images, areas where you want no color or want to be a different color. Example - when sponging a night sky use a punched or die cut circle to cover up an area that will represent a full moon.

* Use a mask to cover a stamped image, then stamp an other image next to it. The second image will appear to be behind the original image. Example - on today’s sample cards the cards with two cacti, the cactus on the left appears to be behind the cactus on the right.

* Use Washi tape or painter’s tape directly on a sentiment stamp to cover up a part of the sentiment you do not wish to stamp on your card. Example - the greeting on the front of today’s card, “Holy Guacamole”came from a stamp that reads “Holy Guacamole it’s your birthday.

VIDEO
TWO MASKING TECHNIQUES THAT MAKE STAMP SETS MORE VERSATILE

MASKING IMAGES

* Stamp the image on your card, focal panel, etc. then stamp the image on masking paper, a sticky note, or other thin paper - this image will be your mask.
* Cut out the mask. Cut right along the edge of the stamped line.
* Place the mask over the stamped image. If using masking paper remove the backing and place over image. If using a sticky note stamp your mask so as to get as much of the image as you can along the top edge so as to get as much of the sticky as possible on the back of the mask. When using a thin paper with no sticky on the back you can use a temporary adhesive to hold the mask in place.
* Once you have added other stamped images or color to the card or panel, remove the mask

MASKING SENTIMENTS

* Use Washi tape , masking tape, or other tape to cover up words or images you do no wish to stamp.
* Apply ink to stamp.
* Remove tape and stamp on card or focal panel.

For more information and / or to order masking paper or stamp cases (see video) see page 149 of the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog or view in the online store by clicking the links below

INSIDE OF CARDS

Using the masking technique on sentiment stamps allows me to customize my cards. These inside panels demonstrate how masking can turn one sentiment stamp into a stamp for outside and inside card sentiments. The samples also show how masking sentiments and mixing with other sentiment stamps allows you to create cards for a variety of occasions.

NOTE - The “Happy Birthday” sentiment is from the BEST DAY stamp set in the current mini catalog.
The “60” is from the retired LABELER ALPHABET stamp set. I free-handed the “th” using a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. The “Happy Anniversary” sentiment is from a random stamp I have had in my collection for almost 20 years.

I hope you give these masking techniques a try. They are an easy way to expand your creative options, and get more from your stamp sets!

That’s all for today. Thank you so much for stopping by.  Until next time. . .

MAKE A SCENE WITH THE ON THE HORIZON BUNDLE; AN IN DETAIL POST

 Hi Stampers!

Today we’ll take a look at the ON THE HORIZON BUNDLE. The bundle includes the ON THE HORIZON stamp set and the HORIZON DIES. This bundle is part of the NEW HORIZONS SUITE of products featured in the STAMPIN’ UP!®️ JANUARY - JUNE 2022 MINI CATALOG. The ON THE HORIZON BUNDLE is perfect for scene building! Today’s cards combine items from the bundle with two other stamp sets. Let’s take a peek at the cards:

For an overview of the bundle and tips on using the dies view the video below.

MAKING A SCENE WITH THE
ON THE HORIZON BUNDLE VIDEO

ON THE HORIZON STAMP SET

HORIZON DIES

As you can see, the stamp set and dies coordinate, but there is only one die that cuts out a stamped image, the larger outline die. This die set could easily serve as a stand alone die set. The die cuts are perfect for adding little touches to cards, and for scene building on cards.

HORIZON DIE CUTS

RELAX AND ENJOY CARD

For this card I used the ON THE HORIZON stamp set, one of the HORIZON DIES, and a piece of the NEW HORIZONS DSP. This card will fit in a letter sized envelope.

SUPPLIES
* ON THE HORIZON BUNDLE
* Evening Evergreen card base 6 1/4” x 7” scored and folded at 3 1/2” along the 7” side and a piece that is 2 1/4” x 1 1/2” to mat greeting
* DSP cut at 2 3/4” x 5 3/4” (this was actually a scrap leftover from a previous project)
* Basic White cut at 3 1/4” x 6” for inside the card, a piece for the greeting cut at 2” x 1 1/4”, and a scrap for the die cut fence
* Linen thread, about 20”
* Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
* Adhesive , dimensionals, tape

ASSEMBLY
* Stamp the bird images along the top of the DSP. Stamp the greeting in the small piece of Basic White cardstock, and adhere it to its mat.
* Wrap the linen thread around the DSP a few time about 2 1/2” from the top of the DSP, secure it on the back side of the DSP with a piece of tape, and then tie it in a bow.
* Adhere the die cut fence to the bottom left of the DSP.
* Adhere this piece to the card base.
* Adhere the greeting to the card front, placed over the linen thread lined up on the right side of the DSP.
* Adhere the Basic White cardstock to the inside of the card. Stamp a sentiment on this piece if you like.

I think the OCEANFRONT stamp set is a perfect set to pair with the NEW HORIZONS BUNDLE. It is a scene building set, and although it is called Oceanfront, it can be used to make all kinds of outdoor scenes or for creating interesting backgrounds for greetings, and the smaller stamps can be used for accents .

OCEANFRONT STAMP SET

OCEANFRONT BIRTHDAY CARD

I CASEd (Copy And Share Everything) this card from the STAMPIN’ UP! JANUARY - JUNE 2022 MINI CATALOG, page 39. I changed the colors and did a few things differently, but it is basically the same card. STAMPIN’ UP! CATALOGS are great resources for inspiration, ideas, and revving up your creativity!

SUPPLIES
* OCEANFRONT & ON THE HORIZON stamp set and the HORIZON DIES - the greeting I used for this card is from TIMELESS TULIPS stamp set
* Pear Pizzazz card base - 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 1 1/4” and a small piece to mat the greeting - the size will depend on the greeting you use.
* Basic White cardstock m two pieces cut at 3 3/4” x 5” - one for the focal piece and one for the inside of the card, a small piece for the greeting, the size will be determined by your greeting.
* Scrap of Smoky Slate for the fence die cuts
* Inks - Balmy Blue, Bermuda Bay, Pear Pizzazz, Sahara Sand and Memento Tuxedo Black
* Adhesive and dimensionals

ASSEMBLY
* On one piece of the Basic White stamp the sky with Balmy Blue (I stamped off once on scrap paper then stamped the image on the cardstock).
* Stamp the water with Bermuda Bay (stamped off).
* Stamp the sand with Sahara Sand. I stamped it three times. Go over the sand with the dotted stamp (I stamped off before stamping on the cardstock each time).
* Stamp the grasses with Pear Pizzazz.
* On the scrap of Basic White stamp the greeting with Pear Pizzazz, trim and mat on a piece of Pear Pizzazz.
* Stamp the birds image (from ON THE HORIZON) over the sky with Memento Tuxedo Black ink
* Adhere the fence pieces to the focal piece. (Watch the video for tips on adhering and adding dimension to the fence).
* Adhere the focal piece to the cardbase.
* Use dimensionals to adhere the greeting.
* I used the “Relax & enjoy your day” from ON THE HORIZON set for an inside sentiment. Stamp the sentiment with Pear Pizzazz ink on the remaining piece of Basic White cardstock, and adhere it to the inside of the card.

For the final card I used a fun stamp set called BRAVE VIKINGS. It is just the cutest set! This is an anniversary card for my sister and her husband. This set is great for Valentine cards, birthday cards, encouragement cards, etc. I used two dies from the HORIZON DIES to create the mountains on this card.

BRAVE VIKING ANNIVERSARY CARD

INSIDE OF CARD

BRAVE VIKINGS STAMP SET

SUPPLIES
* BRAVE VIKINGS and A GRAND KID stamp sets, HORIZON DIES
* Crumb Cake card base - 8 1/2” x 5 1/2” scored and folded at 4 1/4” and a piece cut at 3 1/8” x 1 1/4” for greeting mat
* Early Espresso cardstock cut at 5 1/4” x 4” for mat
* Basic White cardstock - two pieces cut at 5” x 3 3/4” (for focal panel and inside panel), a piece for the greeting cut at 2 7/8” x 1” and a scrap for the mountain snow die cut, scraps for stamping the Vikings and the Viking ship
* Scrap of Gray Granite cardstock for die cutting mountain
* Inks - Memento Tuxedo Black, Early Espresso, Balmy Blue, Pear Pizzazz; Stampin’ Blends alcohol marker, colors of choice, for coloring the Vikings and the ship.
* Water Painter, large flat brush tip
* Adhesive, liquid adhesive, dimensionals, mini dimensionals

ASSEMBLY
* Use the Balmy Blue and Pear Pizzazz inks and the Water Painter to create a water color wash on the focal panel; Balmy Blue on the top half, Pear Pizzazz on the bottom half of the paper.

NOTE - I know. I know! One should not water color on Basic White cardstock, but you can if you do so very carefully! Simply use as little water as possible and go over the areas of the cardstock only once or twice. Allow the cardstock to air dry or dry with your heat tool. If you prefer, you can substitute water color paper or Shimmery White cardstock for the Basic White.

* Stamp the greeting with Early Espresso. First stamp the Congratulations from the A GRAND KID stamp set. Next use the Happy Birthday stamp  from the BRAVE VIKINGS set, mask the Happy Birthday with washi tape or other low tack tape, ink the stamp, remove the mask, and stamp the “You’ve conquered another year” under the congratulations. Adhere the greeting to it’s mat.
* Stamp the Vikings and the ship images with the Tuxedo Black ink on Basic White scraps. Color them with Stampin’ Blends of your choice. Fussy cut all three images.
* Stamp a sentiment on the remaining piece of Basic White (for the inside) if you like. I stamped Happy Anniversary (this stamp is just a random stamp I have)
* Die cut the mountain pieces and adhere together. Check out the video for tips on adhering the “snow” to the mountains.
* Adhere the focal panel to its Early Espresso mat. Adhere the greeting centered about 1/2” from the top of the focal panel.
* Adhere the mountains to the focal panel about 1/2 way down
* Use dimensionals to adhere the Vikings.
* Adhere the Viking ship to the inside panel of the card along the bottom right side. Watch the video to see how I added dimension to the ship’s sail

The ON THE HORIZON BUNDLE is a great for creating cards featuring a variety of scenes. As I mentioned earlier, I think the OCEANFRONT stamp set pairs really well with this bundle.

That is all for today. Thank you so much for stopping by! Until next time…

TASTEFUL TOUCHES FOR SUMMERTIME CARD MAKING

TASTEFUL TOUCHES
FOR SUMMERTIME CARDS

Outside my window everything is quiet and still. The leaves on the tres are not moving; a very rare occurrence as I live on top of a hill! We almost always have a breeze. The squirrels, rabbits, deer, and other woodland creatures that usually frolic in my yard are nowhere to be found, and there is absolutely no activity at the bird feeders - another extremely rare phenomenon!!! Omens of impending doom? Nope! Just July in the Ohio River Valley. Along with the oppressive heat we have high humidity! Usually by now we are experiencing the 3H’s - hazy, hot, and humid. No hazy today - just the hot and humid! The perfect weather for staying inside and making a card or two!

I decided to keep things simple today, and let designer series paper (DSP)provide color contrast and texture! Here is my card.

See how the DSP creates the illusion of texture! I love it! No embossing folder, no embossing paste, just DSP!

For this card I used two stamp sets. TASTEFUL TOUCHES for the image, and A WISH FOR EVERYTHING for the greeting. Both stamps sets can be found in the Stampin’ Up! 2020-21Annual Catalog.

I started with a Basic Black card base. I cut a piece of silver foil sheet at 4 1/8” x 5 3/8”. The DSP is from the In Good Taste DSP, and measures 4” x 5 1/4”.

I randomly stamped the feather image onto the DSP with Smoky Slate ink. The greeting is stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I layered the DSP on top of the foil sheet, and attached that panel to the card base. I added a few metallic pearls (silver), to finish the card. A textured look on cards is just that easy! I hope this card provides you with your own greatinkspirations!

Now for a refreshing glass of iced tea!

Until next time...
Stamp Happy!
