CREATING GIFT TAGS TO GIVE AS GIFTS OR USE YOURSELF - A STAMP HAPPY HOLIDAYS POST

Hi Stampers!

We are less than a month away from Christmas! I can’t believe how quickly time is passing! I thought today we’d take a break from creating cards and create some gift tags. You do not need any special tools to create tags. If you have a paper trimmer, card stock, patterned paper, adhesive - you can create gift tags! If you have dies, embellishments, ribbon, and twine - even better. I do create tags to use myself, but I also create tags to give as gifts, and I create boxes to package the tags. These make great favors for dinner guests, co-workers, teachers, etc. So, let’s get started creating tags!

QUICK & EASY TAGS

HAND CUT & DIE CUT TAGS

STACKED GIFT TAGS / ORNAMENTS

CREATING GIFT TAGS TO GIVE AS GIFTS OR USE YOURSELF

QUICK & EASY SELF-ADHESIVE GIFT TAGS

SUPPLIES
* Tag base - white or light colored cardstock - cut each at 3 3/8” x 2 1/8”. Leave the corners squared or use corner shaper punches, such as a corner rounder punch.
* To / From stamp -to / from can be hand written with markers if you like.
* Adhesive sheets or other double sided adhesive. I cut adhesive sheets into pieces about 2 1/2” long x 1/4” wide. Peel off the backing on one side of adhesive place it on back of tag.
* Other supplies dies, punches, colored cardstock, patterned paper, dimensionals, etc.

PACKAGING THESE TAGS

I made small boxes to package these tags. I call them “sleeves” for lack of a better term. There are two versions of this “sleeve” box. A tall version, and a short one. Here are the instructions for these little containers.

HAND CUT & DIE CUT TAGS

SUPPLIES FOR HAND CUT TAGS
* Patterned paper - cut 1 per tag at 4” x 2”
* Cardstock - coordinating color  (white or light colors work best) -cut 1 per tag at 4” x 2”
* Ribbon or twine - about 7” - 8” per tag
* Hole punch - or adhere the ribbon / twine between the patterned paper and cardstock layers
* Stamps, dies, punches, embellishments, etc
* Inks, other coloring tools
* Adhesive

FOR DIE CUT TAGS
* Supplies listed above
* A tag shaped die or set of tag dies - die cut the patterned paper and the cardstock with the same die.

NOTE - For both versions of the tags the patterned paper is adhered to the cardstock. This makes a sturdy tag and the plain cardstock gives you a place to stamp to and from.

BOXING UP THE TAGS

PACKAGING TAGS FOR GIFTS

DIAGRAM FOR TAG BOX

SUPPLIES
* Cardstock 8” x 5 1/2”
* Strong Adhesive
* Patterned paper, die cuts ,etc.to decorate the box

STACKED TAGS / ORNAMENTS

These tags are so much fun to make. They do require stamps with coordinating dies, or stamp images on shapes (circles, squares, etc). Once the images are stamped, colored, and die cut, cut three more of the die cut shape from white or light colored cardstock. Glue a blank shape to the back side of the image. Glue together the other 2 die cuts. Cut 10” of twine or ribbon, adhere to backside of the image put adhesive on the backside of the die cut and adhere the other 2 die cuts to the piece. Stamp to / from of the backside of the piece. These tags resemble chipboard, and can double as ornament.

STAMPS & DIES I USED
*Top hat snowman - It’s A Wonderful Christmas (Photo Play)
* Ear muff snowman - It’s A Wonderful Christmas (Photo Play)
* Five snowmen - Snowmen (Crafter’s Companion)

There you go, a few ideas for creating tags to use yourself or to give as a gifts to others. Tags can be very elaborate, or quick and easy. They always dress up gifts and bring smiles to the recipient!

GIFT TAG GIFTS - A STAMP HAPPY HOLIDAYS POST

Hi Stampers!

Today we’re going to talk about gift tags, no so much making gift tags as what to do with them after they are made. I know what you are thinking. Obviously the gift tags will be placed on gifts!  That is true. How about making the tags the gift? I enjoy giving my friends and family boxes of tags to use on their Christmas gifts. Everyone seems to really appreciate the tags, and they use them!!! There are many ways to package your tags for giving them as a gift. Several weeks ago I shared how I made a small folder to package a set of tags. You will find the blog post and video HERE. The tags I am sharing today are packaged in a simple box with a coordinating lid. Let’s take a look at today’s project:

I usually make 12-24 tags for each gift. I created 12 tags for my sample box, 4 of each design.

To create this project I used two bundles; the ROCKING HORSE BUNDLE and the MERRIEST TREES BUNDLE. Both bundles are found in the Stampin’ Up!®️ September - December 2023 Mini Catalog, and can also be view in the online store.

ROCKING HORSE GIFT TAGS GIFT BOX

Here is the card that inspired my box of tags. Supply lists and video instructions can be found HERE.

HOW TO MEASURE TO CREATE A BOX FOR TAGS

The box I created measures 3 7/8” long x 2 5/8” wide and 1” tall. Most tags I create will fit in a box this size, but not all. Here is how to determine the size box and lid you will need for your tags.

1. BOX LENGTH
    Stack your tags. Measure the length from one end of the tags to the other. If the tags are different sizes,
    be sure to measure the length of the longest tag.This measurement is the length of your box.

2. BOX WIDTH
    While the tags are stacked measure the width (how tall the tags are). This is the width of your box.

3. BOX HEIGHT
    Keeping the tags stacked, measure the height of the tags. This will be the height of the box. Most of the
    time a height of 1” will allow room for 20-24 tags, unless the tags are heavily embellished. A height of
    less than an inch can result in a box that is less sturdy, but I have made boxes the are 1/2” tall and they
    held up well. I think a box that is 1” or taller looks very nice.

4. CONVERTING THESE MEASUREMENTS INTO CUTTING MEASUREMENTS
    Whatever measurement you decided on for the height of you box, you will double it, and add this
     measurement to both the length measurement and the width measurement. These additions allow for
    the sides of the box.

     EXAMPLE:

     The length of my tags is 3 7/8”. I want my box to be 1” tall (measurement for the side of the box). I
     need to add 2” to the length. This creates two sides of the box. The total length of my cardstock will be
     5 7/8”.

     The width of my tags measured 2 5/8”. Just like with the length I need to add 2” to this measurement to
     allow for the other two sides of the box. The width of my cardstock will be 4 5/8”.

CUTTING MEASUREMENTS

     The cardstock for my box will be cut at 5 7/8” x 4 5/8”
     To calculate the cutting measurements of the cardstock for the BOX LID simply add 1/8” to the length
      and width of the box cutting measurements. For the sample he cardstock cutting measurements will be
     6” x 4 3/4”.

SCORING

      Score all side of each piece of cardstock at 1”.

NOTCH THE LID (This makes it easier to open the box.)

      Place the one long end of the lid at the top of a  paper trimmer or scoring board. Use the scoring blade
      or stylus to mark the halfway point of the cardstock. The lid length in my example is 6” so the
      halfway point is 3”. The score mark does not have to be very long, just enough for you to know where
      the halfway point is. You can mark this with a pencil if you’d rather.

      Use a 1” circle punch (or punch of your choice to create a notch). Align the punch so the the place
      you marked is in the middle of the circle. You will punch only 1/2 or less of the circle. (See video.)

ASSEMBLING THE BOX AND LID

If you decide to put a layer of DSP on the box lid, adhere it prior to assembling.

View the video to see how to assemble the box.

CREATING GIFT TAGS USING TAILOR MADE TAGS DIES & THE VERY BEST TRIO PUNCH - A STAMP HAPPY HOLIDAY POST

Hi Stampers!

Today let’s talk about gift tags!  When making tags I spend an hour or so doing all the prep work -  die cutting, punching, etc.  Then when I have 30 minutes here and there I go to my craft room and put together a stack of tags. Before I know it I have a whole lot of tags to use on gifts and as gifts. I like packaging up some tags and giving them as gifts prior to Christmas. People appreciate the thought, and they use the tags!

Tags do not have to be complicated, and as a rule I tend to keep mine very simple. Once in a while I will make a fancy embellished tag for a special occasion, like a wedding gift or a gift for a milestone birthday, but from a practical standpoint tags are meant to be functional as opposed to a sentimental keepsake. This doesn’t mean settling for plain and boring, it just means I try to create tags that go together quickly and do not require a lot of supplies! When making lots and lots of tags this strategy keeps me focused and sane!  Let’s take a look at the tags!

Watch the video below to see options for creating tags from the Tailor Made Tags Dies, and how to get similar looks using the Very Best Trio Punch and other punches you might have in your collection.

CREATING TAGS USING TAILOR MADE TAGS DIES
& THE VERY BEST TRIO PUNCH
VIDEO

Last year Stampin’ Up!®️ introduced the Tailor Made Tags Dies. This set of dies makes creating gift tags a breeze. I use the dies throughout the year whenever I need a tag. This year Stampin’ Up! introduced the Very Best Trio Punch. This punch will cut two different corner designs and a rectangular hole for ribbon. Today I will show you tags I created using the dies, and  demonstrate how to make a similar version of the tags  using the punch. Also we’ll take a look at other punches you might have in your collection that will also give you similar results.

TAILOR MADE TAGS DIES

To create tags approximately the same size as the two largest dies cut your cardstock in rectangles following cutting dimensions shown in the photos above and below.
